This document discusses the importance of acknowledging and rewarding yourself for your successes. It provides two reasons why people may not receive acknowledgement from others: 1) Humans see some tasks as expected norms that don't require praise and 2) Others may have different standards of what deserves celebration. The document recommends acknowledging yourself for both small and large successes to stay motivated. It suggests rewarding yourself in ways aligned with your accomplishments, from small rewards for minor successes to larger rewards for major accomplishments. The rewards should motivate continued growth rather than be ends in themselves.
2. Introduction
• Take a moment and think to yourself when you
accomplished something when you were young or even
as an adult, such as learning how to ride a bike or tie
your shoe, or getting your first job; did your parents
take the time to celebrate for your success?
• Do you sometimes have trouble moving forward in life
because you have done so many things for other people,
but do not get the appreciation or acknowledgment that
you think you deserve?
3. 1st
reason for not getting
acknowledgement
• If you answer yes to any of the question, then there are two
main reasons why this might happened
• First, as human beings, sometimes we would think that
acknowledgement is not needed when we do the right things
• We think that doing positive things is expected and normal
• For example, it is like eating, eating is a way of living
• When you eat, you do not get acknowledged for your eating
behaviors; even though you might work hard to develop a
healthy diet
4. 2nd
reason for not getting
acknowledgement
• Second, other people might not see your
accomplishment as worthy enough to be celebrated
• As human beings, everyone has a different standard
• If other people have higher standard than you, then they
are unlikely to appreciate or acknowledge for your
success, despite how much you think you deserve the
appreciation or acknowledgment
5. Acknowledge yourself
As a human being, sometimes you would need
acknowledgements for your success in order to
move forward
Since you cannot always count on other people
for their acknowledgement or appreciation, you
need to acknowledge yourself for your successes
6. Acknowledge yourself
• Every success, small and big, should be acknowledged
• Success does not mean you have to achieve something big
• Success simple means you have accomplished something that
you have never done before
• Acknowledgments will reinforce that you are a great human
being with a lot of potential to become successful in the
future
• Even though you might feel better to be acknowledged and
appreciated by other people, other people’s
acknowledgement should only be extra
7. One way to acknowledge yourself
One successful method of acknowledgement is
to reward yourself
The reward could be anything physical, mental,
or spiritual, or any other way to keep your
motivation up
However, there is a wrong and right way to
reward yourself
8. How to reward yourself correctly
• Make sure you reward yourself accordingly to your
success that will help you move forward in life
• For example, when you accomplish something small,
then you should reward yourself small
• When you have a big accomplishment, then you should
reward yourself something big
• If you reward yourself in the wrong way, then it could
prevent you to move forward in life
9. How to reward yourself correctly
• One way to know if you deserve the reward or not is by looking
at the after effect of the reward
• Everything you do in life must have a purpose
• For example, after you get your degree, the reward could be a
vacation
• However, if your vacation did not motivate you to take your
knowledge to do better things such as contributing to your
community and society, then you did not deserve the vacation
• The purpose of your vacation is to help recharge your energy and
strength to prepare yourself to contribute to your community and
society
• Rewarding is just a tool to keep your motivation up, it is not to
set an end to your journey
10. Action Steps
• 1. List down all of your successes, small and big
• 2. List down everything that you would like to reward
yourself with. It could be anything that you would want to
have or experience
• 3. If you have never reward yourself before, then look at
your successes and choose one. Then look at your reward
list, and then choose one that matches your success
• 4. As you accomplish new things, make sure to reward
yourself accordingly to your reward list. Keep on adding
new things to your reward list
