This presentation was delivered at NADO's Annual Training Conference, held in Anchorage, Alaska on September 9-12, 2017.
RDOs can play a variety of roles in ensuring a region has a skilled and engaged talent pool of workers. These efforts include spearheading training and workforce development programs, supporting educational and mentoring opportunities, and providing networking assistance and advice for job seekers. Learn what new programs have been established by RDOs across the country that are providing wide-ranging support to both local workers and employers, which in turn are making their regions more competitive and prosperous.

Flyer used to promote B2B
The purpose of B2B is to provide the college graduate in WNC with real world job experience and the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and abilities. The program creates a new pathway to help graduates find employment opportunities that will take advantage of their earned degrees. Businesses or organizations who need the assistance with current projects gain the benefit of a free intern. Goal to reduce the “brain drain” from WNC where many graduates leave the region for larger cities.
Businesses that particiapted
B2B interns are matched with internship opportunities at local businesses and organizations through networking event and self-selection, all matches are voluntary between the graduate and the host business or organization.
Host businesses or organizations receive the assistance of an intern to work on projects that may otherwise not be completed and the opportunity to work with an intern without the initial commitment of a permanent hire.
B2B is a partnership between Mountain Area Workforce Development Board, AB Tech, Blue Ridge Community College, colleges and universities, and over 40 local businesses and organizations.
There was a B2B networking event tied to a local Talent Jam one evening. The B2B program is like speed dating – more than a one night stand, but it isn’t a marriage proposal!
B2B interns must qualify for the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) as either a low-income Adult or Dislocated Worker.
Weakness - B2B was limited number of college graduates applying for internship opportunities, more interest from businesses and organizations than graduates.
