Mary Wollstonecraft published A Vindication of the Rights of Woman in 1792, which was the first major feminist work. In it, she argued that women should strive to develop their intellect and strength of both mind and body. She believed that being seen as weak, delicate, or overly emotional was equivalent to weakness.
