2. Cover:
Masthead; this will attract audiences as it is positioned at
the top of the magazine making it visible from a shelf. I used
a large bold font in block capitals which would make it hard
for audiences to miss and therefore attracts them to the
magazine.
Cover Lines; the main cover line attracts audience as it is
large and bold which makes the cover stand out. Other cover
lines stand out well from the background and they appeal to
my target audience. For example the 'Glastonbury, Reading
& Leeds' cover line attracts the audience as I have targeted
my magazine to younger people who enjoy music festivals. I
have used bands and artists that my target audience enjoy
on in the cover lines, doing this attracts the audience as they
want to the magazine, making them want to find out what’s
inside about their favourite artists.
Main image; the model I used on my cover have the same
style as my target audience. This makes the magazine appeal
to them as they can read about people similar to them in a
way. The outfit of my model appeals to my target audience
as they dress in similar way and like people who dress like
my artist.
Tagline (circular cover line); I put this, ‘singles of 2013 so
far’, on the cover as it sticks out and makes the reader want
to read further. The grey circle with white text makes it really
stand out grabbing readers attention.
Price; the price can be seen on top of the bar code in the
bottom left hand side of the cover. I've priced my magazine
at £3.99, I think think this is very reasonable price as it’s a
monthly magazine.
3. Contents Page:
Masthead; I put the masthead again on the contents
page but in a contrasting grey. This on the white
background stands out. ‘Contents – 03/13’ is in a
condensed myriad pro font, I felt that this font makes it
look sharp, the date I filled in dark red font as this
contrast well with the other colours on the page.
Main Image; The image is of the same person used on
the cover but has a change off background and colour
included. I made the image in colour as it a nice contrast
from the black& white image on the cover. Also that it's
a large image, framed shows it's importance over the
other features of the magazine which makes readers
interested to read further in to this. My artist now shows
his patterned blue/white t- shirt, this blue contrast with
the background behind him, making him stand out. I felt
that this highlights the importance of my artist thus
making readers wanting to read further.
Bands/artist featured; The bands that are featured are
popular with my target audience and this will make
them want to read further.
Other images/ text; the two images with page numbers
in the third column, relate to two of the contents
featured in the middle column. This gives the reader an
insight of what the articles may be about and attracts
them to it.
4. Double Page Spread:
Main Image; The image takes up the entire left page and shows the model in a different
environment. The model is seating down and looking directly at the readers which appeals to
the audience.
Pull quote; I only used one pull quote which is on the left page above the model. Pull quotes
attract the audience to read further as they show a glimpse of information that is included in
the main article.
Headline; 'Jake Levigne' is large and bold and spreads across the right page and because of the
size attracts the audience to read further.
5. Colour scheme
I used a red/white/dark grey colour scheme. I
think that this colour scheme really does grab
attention. Having the masthead the colour red
attracts the audience as it’s on a white
background and really stands out well. Having
a white background will make the image on
the front of the magazine stand out. The white
background is also on the contents page and
double page spread because white gives a
magazine a clean look appealing to the
readers. The text colour was grey/black text
making it look sharp and appealing to readers.
I used the red to show the importance of
something on in magazine, for example on the
contents page numbers, the headline on
double page spread and main cover line on
cover.
I felt I used the colour scheme well, making the
magazine appealing to any audience.
