Overview
• Definitions:
 Revival - a specific period of increased spiritual
interest or renewal in the life of a church
congregation
• 1. restoration of vigor or vitality
• 2. a renewed use, acceptance of, or interest in (past customs,
styles, etc.) a revival of learning the Gothic revival
• 3. a reawakening of faith or renewal of commitment to religion
• 4. an evangelistic meeting or service intended to effect such a
reawakening in those present
 Revitalization - To impart new life or vigor to
something; restore to an active or fresh condition

Why Do A Revitalization Plan?
• “Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but
as wise, making the most of every opportunity.” (Eph
5:15-16)
• Revitalization Planning
 Helps focus on aligning the congregation’s God-given gifts,
talents and resources
 Purpose is to be ready for opportunities God presents
 Align with God’s will through prayer and obedience
 It’s a process – we plan, God directs

Ten Traits of a Healthy Church & Ministry
1. God’s Empowering Presence: The healthy church actively seeks the Holy Spirit’s
direction and empowerment for its daily life and ministry (Romans 8:16, “The Spirit
himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children”).
2. God-Exalting Worship: The healthy church gathers regularly as the local expression
of the body of Christ to worship God in ways that engage the heart, mind, soul, and
strength of the people (John 4:23, “Yet a time is coming and has now come when
the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of
worshipers the Father seeks”).
3. Spiritual Disciplines: The healthy church provides training, models, and resources for
members of all ages to develop their daily spiritual disciplines (James 3:17, “But the
wisdom that comes from heaven if first of all pure, then peace loving, considerate,
submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere”).
4. Learning and Growing in Community: The healthy church encourages believers to
grow in their walks with God and with one another in the context of a safe, affirming
environment (Romans 14:19, “Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to
peace and to mutual edification”).
5. A Commitment to Loving and Caring Relationships: The healthy church is intentional
in its efforts to build loving, caring relationships within families, between members,
and within the community they serve (I John 3:16, “This is how we know what love is:
Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our
brothers”).

Ten Traits of a Healthy Church & Ministry
6. Servant-Leadership Development: The healthy church identifies and develops
individuals whom God has called and given the gift of leadership and challenges
them to become servant-leaders (Ephesians 4:16, “From Him (Christ) the whole
body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself
up in love, as each part does its work”).
7. An Outward Focus: The healthy church places high priority on communicating the
truth of Jesus and demonstrating the love of Jesus to those outside the faith (Luke
19:10, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost”).
8. Wise Administration and Accountability: The healthy church utilizes appropriate
facilities, equipment, and systems to provide maximum support for the growth and
development of its ministries (Luke 16:11, “So if you have not been trustworthy in
handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?”).
9. Networking with the Body of Christ: The healthy church reaches out to others in the
body of Christ for collaboration, resource sharing, learning opportunities, and united
celebrations of worship (John 17:23, “May they (the church) be brought to complete
unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you
have loved me”).
10. Stewardship and Generosity: The healthy church teaches its members that they are
stewards of their God-given resources and challenges them to sacrificial generosity
in sharing with others (2 Corinthians 9:6, “Remember this: whoever sows sparingly will
also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously”).

What is Revitalization Planning?
• It’s a road map for how we carry out our
mission and vision
• Spells out where we’re going over the next
year or more
• Focuses Energy, Resources and Everyone’s
Time in the same direction
 Helps us do better
 Improves the church
• Quick, Simple and Easily Executed
 Not Mysterious, Complicated or time
consuming

• A Good Plan Achieves the following:
 Reflects Synama Grove Values
 Clearly defines what is most important
 Assists us in every day thinking
 Gets everyone on the same page
 Creates a culture of thinking, planning and
decision-making

What Is In A Revitalization Plan?
• A Good Plan includes:
 Mission – To define the Church's purpose. Why do
we exist?
 Values – To clarify what Synama stands for and
believe in.
 SWOT – To assess the particular strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities and threats that are
strategically important to Synama.
 Advantage – What do we do best?
 Vision – To explain where we are headed. Where
do we want to be in five years?

What Is In A Revitalization Plan?
• A Good Plan includes:
 Church-wide strategy – How will we get to our
vision? What is the route we will take?
 Objectives – To connect our mission to our vision.
What are the long-term, 3-year out priorities we
need to perform in order to achieve our vision?
 Goals – To set goals that convert the objectives
into specific achievements. What are the one-
year goals we are trying to achieve to support our
objectives?
 Action – To set specific action plans that lead to
implementing your goals. What the 30, 60, 90 days
actions?

How Will We Get There?
• Go through a process that answers these
questions:
 Spiritual Needs Assessment: What are the greatest
spiritual needs of our church and community?
 Strengths and Weaknesses: What are the greatest
strengths and weaknesses of our church?
 Opportunities and Threats or Barriers: What are the
most significant ministry opportunities for and
potential threats (or barriers) to our church, given
the answers to the first two questions?
 Ministry Options: What appear to be the most viable
options for strengthening the ministry of our church?

How Will We Get There?
• Go through a process that answers these
questions:
 Ministry Platform: What is the primary ministry
platform on which our specific ministries should be
built? Included in the ministry platform are our
statement of faith, vision statement, mission
statement, philosophy of ministry, and listing of
ministries.
 Ministry Goals: What goals is the Holy Spirit leading us
to strive for to enhance our church's ministry over the
next year? The next two to three years?
 Action Steps: What action steps must we accomplish
to achieve these goals?

Success Factors and Pitfalls?
• Success Factors
 It’s all about listening to the congregation
 Swing the doors wide open – get everyone to
participate
 Leaders will need to have a “thick skin”
 Be genuine in asking the congregation to be
involved
 Use the information that is gathered

Success Factors and Pitfalls?
• Pitfalls
 Making Planning Too Complex: There are usually two or three key issues
that will be discovered, and, if acted on, will lead to enhanced health
and vitality.
 Not Reaching Conclusions and Making an Action Plan
 Not Keeping the Action Plan Simple
 Not Revisiting the Plan: Your plan should be adjustable along the way,
revised and renewed according to the needs and resources available
to you. Keep your planning documents alive.
 Taking Too Long: Don't let your planning team tire and begin to
complain about the value of doing this. Keep the group moving
forward toward conclusion and celebration.
 Trusting Your Instincts apart from Prayer: As a team, lean fully in God's
direction to hear His voice, feel His heart, understand His will, and trust
His empowering presence to lead you. Revitalization planning in a local
church is a process that God through His Holy Spirit must direct. We
must become a people of prayer as we trust Him for His design for our
church!

Why Do A Revitalization Plan? • “Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity.” (Eph 5:15-16) • Revitalization Planning  Helps focus on aligning the congregation’s God-given gifts, talents and resources  Purpose is to be ready for opportunities God presents  Align with God’s will through prayer and obedience  It’s a process – we plan, God directs 6Synama Grove MBC-Revitilization Plan
  • 7. Ten Traits of a Healthy Church & Ministry 1. God’s Empowering Presence: The healthy church actively seeks the Holy Spirit’s direction and empowerment for its daily life and ministry (Romans 8:16, “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children”). 2. God-Exalting Worship: The healthy church gathers regularly as the local expression of the body of Christ to worship God in ways that engage the heart, mind, soul, and strength of the people (John 4:23, “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks”). 3. Spiritual Disciplines: The healthy church provides training, models, and resources for members of all ages to develop their daily spiritual disciplines (James 3:17, “But the wisdom that comes from heaven if first of all pure, then peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere”). 4. Learning and Growing in Community: The healthy church encourages believers to grow in their walks with God and with one another in the context of a safe, affirming environment (Romans 14:19, “Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification”). 5. A Commitment to Loving and Caring Relationships: The healthy church is intentional in its efforts to build loving, caring relationships within families, between members, and within the community they serve (I John 3:16, “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. Servant-Leadership Development: The healthy church identifies and develops individuals whom God has called and given the gift of leadership and challenges them to become servant-leaders (Ephesians 4:16, “From Him (Christ) the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work”). 7. An Outward Focus: The healthy church places high priority on communicating the truth of Jesus and demonstrating the love of Jesus to those outside the faith (Luke 19:10, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost”). 8. Wise Administration and Accountability: The healthy church utilizes appropriate facilities, equipment, and systems to provide maximum support for the growth and development of its ministries (Luke 16:11, “So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?”). 9. Networking with the Body of Christ: The healthy church reaches out to others in the body of Christ for collaboration, resource sharing, learning opportunities, and united celebrations of worship (John 17:23, “May they (the church) be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me”). 10.   • 11. What Is In A Revitalization Plan? • A Good Plan includes:  Mission – To define the Church's purpose. Why do we exist?  Values – To clarify what Synama stands for and believe in.  SWOT – To assess the particular strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that are strategically important to Synama.  Advantage – What do we do best?  Vision – To explain where we are headed.   • 12. What Is In A Revitalization Plan? • A Good Plan includes:  Church-wide strategy – How will we get to our vision? What is the route we will take?  Objectives – To connect our mission to our vision. What are the long-term, 3-year out priorities we need to perform in order to achieve our vision?  Goals – To set goals that convert the objectives into specific achievements. What are the one- year goals we are trying to achieve to support our objectives?  Action – To set specific action plans that lead to implementing your goals. How Will We Get There? • Go through a process that answers these questions:  Spiritual Needs Assessment: What are the greatest spiritual needs of our church and community?  Strengths and Weaknesses: What are the greatest strengths and weaknesses of our church?  Opportunities and Threats or Barriers: What are the most significant ministry opportunities for and potential threats (or barriers) to our church, given the answers to the first two questions?  Ministry Options: What appear to be the most viable options for strengthening the ministry of our church? 13Synama Grove MBC-Revitilization Plan
  • 14. How Will We Get There? • Go through a process that answers these questions:  Ministry Platform: What is the primary ministry platform on which our specific ministries should be built? Included in the ministry platform are our statement of faith, vision statement, mission statement, philosophy of ministry, and listing of ministries.  Ministry Goals: What goals is the Holy Spirit leading us to strive for to enhance our church's ministry over the next year? Success Factors and Pitfalls? • Success Factors  It’s all about listening to the congregation  Swing the doors wide open – get everyone to participate  Leaders will need to have a “thick skin”  Be genuine in asking the congregation to be involved  Use the information that is gathered 15Synama Grove MBC-Revitilization Plan

Success Factors and Pitfalls? • Pitfalls  Making Planning Too Complex: There are usually two or three key issues that will be discovered, and, if acted on, will lead to enhanced health and vitality.  Not Reaching Conclusions and Making an Action Plan  Not Keeping the Action Plan Simple  Not Revisiting the Plan: Your plan should be adjustable along the way, revised and renewed according to the needs and resources available to you. Keep your planning documents alive.  Taking Too Long: Don't let your planning team tire and begin to complain about the value of doing this.
