our own philosophies and approaches to education. There are several types of early childhood
programs. Each program has its own philosophies, methods, and program goals. Every early
childhood educator is unique making each early childhood program experience special. Consistently,

Materials and manipulatives are spread along the outside walls of the classroom and children are
free to choose which type of materials they would like to work with during independent work
time. You do not notice any individual desks and chairs set up in the classroom, rather a few tables
and chairs grouped together. The furniture is all child size and you do not see any adult sized
furniture throughout the classroom. Students spend most of their time working on the floor where
they have their own individual carpets. They put them down to outline their personal workspace.
Instead of there being various toys and games spread through out the classroom, there are specific
sensory materials and manipulatives that are self correcting and purposeful to student's learning.
On the walls students' work fill spaces throughout the classroom, similar to the walls of a Head
Start classroom. Montessori classrooms are made up of mixed grades and ages, something that is
not typical of traditional classrooms. The Head Start program I visited uses a more traditional
comprehensive method. Students are all close to the same age. Since the program is federally

Depression and anxiety are the two most common mental illnesses in the world today. They make a
person view the world as an ugly, scary place. Many people develop one or the other, and some
develop both. Depression and anxiety are two very different mental illnesses but many people only
see the similarities between them, instead of seeing the difference in their symptoms and emotions.
One of the many differences between depression and anxiety, is their symptoms. According to
Harold Cohen (2016) from psychcentral.com, people with depression have low energy and
"..depressed people often feel overwhelmed by the day–to–day tasks and personal relationships so
essential to life" (para.2). When someone has depression they lose interest in things they used to
love, and they tend to push friends and family away. They also often experience headaches,
insomnia, and a change in appetite. Meanwhile, people with anxiety experience panic attacks in
situations where other people would not. They also feel restless, they shake and sweat, and they
always have a constant worry. The symptoms of anxiety are very different from depression. A

There are lots of great short stories out there, but in my opinion, both 'Chemistry' by Graham Swift
and 'The Landlady' by Roald Dahl are two of the most unique and effective stories. They share both

In the beginning , Billy thought the landlady was 'terribly nice',which he was quite grateful to have
such a nice landlady who give him a well–appointed service, but as the conversations go on, Billy
was then frightened by her weird and creepy contents, he 'sat there staring straight ahead of him into
the far corner of the room, biting his lower lip.' tells the readers that he's begin to frightened and

In another way, these two stories are different because the authors have been using different
perspective when narrating the story. In 'Chemistry', author's written the story in the word of narrator,
mixing both the perspective of adult and young boy's. Line" My father's death was a far less
remote event than my grandfather's but no more explicable, I was only seven." can be a good
example. Almost the whole story was written in past tense, added to the effect of recalling. He's
shown a grown up man recalling memories when he was back in 7–10 years old. This kind of
writing style makes readers felt more personal, because the subject is 'I', when reading out the

'An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' and 'The Red Convertible' 'An Occurrence at Owl Creek
Bridge' by Ambrose Bierce and 'The Red Convertible' by Louise Erdrich both recount sorrowful
tales of men during times of war. The stories differ in that 'An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' is a
story written in reverse, where the readers do not truly know the plot until the end– whereas 'The
Red Convertible' is just a man recounting the story of his long lost brother. However despite their
differences, both of the stories continue to build up hope in the reader only to find nothing but a
sorrowful story at the end.

The entire story was just a snapshot that occurred in his mind before his death. Ambrose Bierce
purposefully continues to build the anticipation that the devout Union soldier had escaped, only to
drop the reader into a tale of demise and overall doom. 'The Red Convertible' by Louise Endrich
was written in 1984 and revolves around a Vietnam veteran and his brother. Lyman Lamartine is a
young man whose brother has just returned from the Vietnam War and has been traumatized by what
he had seen overseas.
Before the war, Lyman and his brother Henry were extremely close. Before Henry departed for the
war, and as Lyman recounts in the story, the two bonded over a red convertible. This car proves to
be symbolic, both throughout, and at the end of the story, due to the change in Henry's behavior,
illustrated by this quote from when Henry returns: "We had always been together before. But he was
such a loner now that I didn't know how to take it."
When Henry returns, he has no desire to ride in the red convertible, no desire to wear the bright
colored clothes he used to dawn–– instead Henry just liked to sit around and sob about the war. The

advocates the use of strict experimental procedures to study observable behaviour or responses in

his work with rats using his "Skinner box". He took the extreme liberty of transferring his

The Rover streetwise advert has pictures of daily life things such as coffee, donuts, a football,
children's Wellingtons boots and a shopping trolley with groceries inside the trolley. This
indicates that the car is a family car and is aimed at married women mainly but can also be used
by a family man to drive to and from work. The slogan for the advert "shrugs of life's little
challenges" is related to the pictures for example the child's muddy Wellington boot. The donut
would represent the father who is hungry on the way home or to work, the shopping trolley
would represent that the car is useful for a family shopping spree. The advert also uses the word
'Bump' which is saying that even if a heavy load is in the car it can still go over speed bumps. I
like the way the advert creates an image of characters in the readers mind, although you cannot
see a physical person (image) but the pictures imply their existence. For example, like when I saw
the picture of the Wellingtons, an image of a little boy was the first thing I thought of. The advert
tells stories of different family lives because each picture relates to many things in everyday life.
I wouldn't buy this car because it's Rover, and I don't like rovers I don't think they are good quality
cars. However the way this car is designed is nice, it is an attractive car and I wouldn't mind driving

Comparison and Contrast of Art
Art is able to transport its viewer through time and connect us as a community. Audiences are able to
infer the content and context of the artwork. Art displayed through different mediums and about
different topics can share many similarities and draw connections between one another. Exodus,
created by Shelby Lechman (2015), uses oil paint on canvas to depict a young boy and father in a
train car, leaving their home in Hungary during the time of the Hungarian Revolution (fig.1). Back

However, further connection in context and content can be developed when analyzing the
connection of the works roots and art in history. Exodus exhibits the reality of human suffering as a
result of war and oppression during the Hungarian Revolution. The historical relevance of this work
dives into a deeper significance than its basic face value. The oppression and struggle for power
signified in Exodus also translates into Figure 2. Both cultures, in their own time have faced their
traditions and way of life being threatened. As Hungarian citizens are forced to leave their country,
Ojibwa members were constantly threatened by European immigrants. The human experience is key
in understanding and studying art. Besides the main styles and usage in appearance, the connection
to a point in time and the influence of that time allows the audience to connect with the artist and the
characteristics of the artwork. Audiences are able to connect past themes to present day issues, such
as the difficulties facing many Syrian refugees and the numerous Native American women who
have gone missing. The importance of home and culture is evident in both works despite their
different purposes and artistic modes. Limits are explored and barriers of past, present are future are
removed when audiences are able to interpret the work from any point in time and understand the
significance of its visual and non–visual means.

The first of the two stories I chose to compare and contrast is titled "The Lottery" by Shirley
Jackson and the second story is titled "The Rocking–Horse Winner" by D.H. Lawrence. I will
compare each of their themes, characters, and plot developments in which they are both similar and
different. One of the strongest comparison would be that both stories deal with the subject of luck in
one sense or another. The Lottery being considered a game of chance in which luck plays an

Looking at both stories, the Lottery appears to be a means of how the town remain at a low
population and that the Lottery was a way of controlling that population. The Rocking–Horse
Winner on the other hand uses gambling as an alternative to making money and that money is
earned by being lucky and that you had to have an imagination in order to possess this luck. The
Lottery focused its story around an ancient black wooden box that held the Lottery choices within it
and the Rocking–Horse Winner was focused upon an old style Rocking Horse that was often used
by children long ago and something that is not used today that often. Both endings of each story
were odd enough whereas in the Lottery, the death of another person came as a ritual that was
expected to happen so very often and in the Rocking–Horse Winner, Master Paul, the woman's son
sought the approval of his Mother concerning his having luck. The boy died that night and the
Mother had not acknowledged that she knew that her son was lucky even though she was eighty
–odd thousand to the good. Very odd turn of events in both stories and both had unusual endings in
which there seems to be that type of contrast. Not that they were similar in story form but that they

valuable records; their health information. Not so long ago there was only one method of keeping
medical records and this was utilizing paper charts. These charts, although still used in many

Just as with paper medical charts, security of the information is an issue to a lot of people and in
its own way EMR's take precaution in keeping people out of the charts that should not be there.
Almost all EMR programs are equipped with password protection. Although EMR's may be
taking over the medical world, paper medical charts remain the most well recognized form for
keeping medical records. There are however some things within paper charts that some medical
personnel might argue make it a primitive aspect of the medical field. One argument in itself is
that the abundance of paper that is utilized in paper charting doesn't stand up to the "green"
society we aspire to live in today. "Paper charting used to take so long, the papers would always
get unorganized, they took up so much room in the nurses' station and the worst was waiting for a
doctor to finish with a chart so I could chart what I needed to" (Brittney Guggino LPN, 2012).
Another acknowledged concern with paper medical charts is the illegible handwriting of clinicians,
which is a common, longstanding problem. Being unable to read orders clearly creates an added
