The CIIS Website
This spring we are rolling out several new page designs for the CIIS website.

help programs and faculty in their outreach, promotional, and recruitment
efforts.

dynamic and visual.
It will feature Academic News, Blogs, Alumni
Newsletter items, and more in the same module.

Faculty Bios
Through the use of tabbed content, it will be easier
for faculty to display their biographies, publica-
tions, blog posts, promotional videos, etc.
Throught the use of taxonometric tagging, the site
will be able to load other departmental faculty on
your bio page.
Defined, clear layout.

News and Blogs
One key to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is to get other websites to link back to
www.ciis.edu. When Google sees that other sites link to your content, they consider
your website more “relevant,” and therefore, it will rank higher for certain search
terms.
The key to getting other websites to link to you is to produce good content.
It’s imporant to post all types of news about the Institute to show that important
things happen here; it shows that we are a vibrant community.
Blogs can be a very crucial way for our subject matter experts to respond to or
discuss topics in the news or in demand. Blog posts by their nature should be short
and informal, and so this type of content is typically quick to produce; timing is key.

Blog Guidelines
Tone
The tone of your blog should be informal; conversational rather than academic. Be
yourself, be opinionated, be personal. Your writing should be substantive, but you
should also aim to have fun when you write for the blog.
Length
The sweet spot is between 500-700 words. If you submit a blog that is more than
1,000 words in length, the editor may make suggestions intended to reduce the
length.
Series
Would you like to write a series of blogs on a single topic? Please pitch your idea,
and we’ll probably agree to publish it.

Blog Guidelines
Links
Please indicate when a word or phrase should be linked by including the URL of the
link in brackets in the text. No need to create the hyperlink within your Word docu-
ment.
Photos
We require that you include at least one photo with your blog submission. Please
do not embed this photo in your Word document; include the photo as an email at-
tachment when you submit, and make a note in the text where the photo should be
inserted. If you don’t have a photo to include, we can help to select a stock photo to
accompany your work.
Be Topical
We encourage people to write about topics in the news. We do, however, require that
your commentary is in some way tethered back to CIIS.
