Progress and Objectives Each Week
In what ways does my product use,
   develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
To create my Front Cover page, I used the layout of a VIBE magazine. Looking at the masthead on the VIBE magazine, I
realised that some of the letters where hidden behind the main image, which may show how popular and well known
the magazine is. Furthermore, I also went for the same style, except I changed the font colour and text style so that it
would stand out more in contrast to my chosen background colour. The use of red font connotes passion and sexuality,
which links back to the main image of Chantelle.

I also included on my Front Cover a white strap line which emerged with the background colour. This included names of
various different artists, which was also included on the VIBE magazine cover. I used pink and black font which made it
stand out very well, and capital letters which made it even more noticeable.

The main image I included on the cover is slightly similar to the one used on the VIBE magazine, as both images are
shown as a medium shot, showing the waist upwards. This type of shot emphasises the seriousness from the
expression on Chantelle's face, as she is hardly smiling and is shown with more of a straight face. I used this image
because I thought it would attract my target audience, teenagers and young adults of both genders very well. This may
be due to the way she looks, what she is wearing or the way she is shown posing.
The writing on my magazine was generally pink, black and white. Most important bits were written in big bold font,
which would catch the viewers eyes, as that would then be the first thing they would read on the page. The quote on
the left hand side of the page, I wrote in italics, as they were done so when I looked through other magazines.

I included an issue number, bar code and a few article titles to give the target audience a rough idea, of what sort of
things were included in the magazine. Last of all, I gave it a price of £2.00 as that is how much most people were willing
to pay, as I found out from the results, when I conducted my questionnaire.
On the bottom left hand side of my Contents Page I included a preview on my Front Cover, as I realised that several
other magazines also had this on their Contents Page. By doing this, it made my Contents Page look more realistic,
stylish and professional.

The image I included is of the person who my main magazine is based on. This image is a full shot image, which I placed
on the right hand side of the page. I chose this image as I thought it would attract it’s target audience, as the use of
colours such as her clothing, stands out very well in contrast to it's background colour.

Looking at Contents Pages of VIBE, I realised that the page numbers started off from higher numbers, with the article
title next to it in a different colour, which is what I did on mine. Underneath the article title I included some information
of what was included in that section of the article, so that the audience are able to flick straight to page without having
to go through the whole magazine.
The main focus on the Double Page Spread is the image of Chantelle, which I showed by placing the image on the
centre of the page. I chose to use an image which showed most of body, as looking at other magazines, they either had
images which were a full shot or medium shot. I also liked the models posture as it links very well with my genre, as she
is shown looking very confident and almighty.

I also included a smaller image on the bottom right hand corner of the page, of my other model A-Jay who is behind the
main story of Chantelle. Again this image links very well with my genre and he is shown and presented like a
stereotypical man that would be shown on a RNB magazine.

I laid out my article very similar to the VIBE magazine, into four columns. I done the questions a different colour to the
actual text, so that it would look more presentable and professional. The main text on the page such as the headline,
and the quotes were enlarges and written in different fonts so that it would stand out more, as this would be the first
thing the the viewers would read.
How does your media product represent
      particular social groups?
I used two models in my magazine of a woman and a boy, as my target audience for my magazine is teenager and young
adults of both genders. I chose to have the woman on the front cover ad her dress sense is very stylish and fashionable,
and the way she looks would attract the target audience and make them want to purchase the magazine. I chose to make
them wear dark clothing, so that it would stand out more. Where if they wore white, it would blend in too much with the
white background.

The use of language I used was quite simple, as my target audience was not just young adults but teenagers as well. To
make it understandable for teenagers I thought to use simple language, so it's understandable rather then complex
language which they wouldn't understand or enjoy reading.

I kept the font style pretty simple though out the whole magazine just like the language, to fit in with the target audience.
However, the text size I changed through out quite a few times, such as the masthead which was written in the biggest
font size, to show it's importance as it is the main part of the magazine that's suppose to attract the audience.
What have you learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing this
               product?
Throughout this course I used a lot of technology such as an SLR Canon, Microsoft publisher, Photo shop and
Zoomerang.

The first thing I used was Microsoft publisher, which I used to do my preliminarily task, which was to create a school
magazine. This was quite basic, as I've used this form of software quite a lot in the past. However, this software
prevented me from creating a professional school magazine, as it did not consist of many editing tools, unlike photo
shop.

I also used Zoomerang to create my questionnaire, which was quite new to me as I had never used it before. In order to
get people to fill out my questionnaire, I posted my questionnaire from zoomerang on facebook, which then allowed
people to fill it in on my page.

After this, this is when the real work started. I had to take various different photos for my magazine, before I started
creating it. In order to do this, I had to learn how to use a SLN Canon, which was also new to me as I had never used it
before. After learning how to use it, I came out with really good quality pictures.

The final software was Photo shop, which was a much more advanced software and also quite difficult. This was the
main thing needed to create my magazine and make it look professional as possible.
Photos
Looking back at your preliminary task,
what have you learnt in the progression
from it to the full product?
I feel that I have learnt a lot from when I first did my preliminary task till now. I've been able to create a more
professional looking magazine, whereas before I had no idea on how to use photo shop and how to use some of the
tools. Photo shop has enabled me to edit photos using the air brush, spot healing brush and so on. I also learnt how to
do an outer glow and add various effect which Microsoft Publisher did not allow.

I also learnt how to take high quality photos using a very high quality camera, which the photos were then edited to
make them look even more professional. Comparing my preliminary task and final magazine now, I think I have done
very well in constructing my magazine using so many new software’s and technologies.
