1. Social Media Marketing
is not a one-way street.

2. OMG. What is Social Media. IDK.
“Social media are primarily Internet-based tools for sharing and
discussing information among human beings.”

3. Social Media MARKETING
A form of internet marketing which seeks to achieve branding and
marketing communication goals through the participation in various
social media networks (MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn), social
bookmarking (Digg, Stumbleupon, De.licio.us), social media sharing
(Flickr, YouTube), review/ratings sites (ePinions, BizRate), blogs,
forums, news aggregators and virtual 3D networks (SecondLife,
ActiveWorlds).
Achieve Goals Through Participation.

8. The Rules of the Game.
#1. Get Real. Be Real.
Use your “human voice”
Don’t simply post press releases and links (not PRNewsWire or
PRWeb)
Don’t post pictures of you in Cancun
Engage in “light exchanges”

9. The Rules of the Game.
#2. Be Responsive. Get Involved.
Spend enough time to explore your friends profiles
Make comments when things change ... photos, status, etc.
Sorry, Ron Popeil. No “set it and forget it”.
Acknowledge when others communicate
Check friend requests, comments, etc.

10. The Rules of the Game.
#3. Be Regular. Regularly Be There.
We’re ALL BUSY, get over it
Commit to 15-20 minutes daily
Don’t over-extend yourself. There are hundreds, if not thousands.
Regular, Consistent, Thoughtful

11. Twitter...what?
Twitter is a micro blogging platform which allows you to publish short
messages of less than 140 characters through different mediums like
IM, cellphones and the web.
Worth an estimated $1B. Yes. Billion.
Grew by 33% in only 1 MONTH.
Skittles increase traffic by 1,332% in one day.

12. Sideline: Funny Twitters

“I am now invited to a dog wedding. I don't have the words to make
that stupider than it already sounds. They're registered at Whiskers.”

“If only they raised me up a few thousand feet, all of you museum
visitors would look just like krill.”

16. Flipping Tweeter-Tastic.
Recognize the potential.
Dell has already proven that Twitter works for them, after producing
over $1M on sale alerts and now offering exclusive deals to their
11,000+ followers.
Twitter is a LEVEL PLAYING FIELD.

17. Facebook. I’m not sold yet.
Facebook isn't quot;onlyquot; the king of social networks; statistics indicate the
thing that started as a gathering place for college kids can send more
traffic to a site than Google itself.
Did I mention IT IS FREE?

18. Why not use newsletters, Nerd?
Who deletes newsletters? I do. 99% of them. Except the Nerdwerx
one. ;)
Just as people sign up for your email newsletters today, they can start
following you on Twitter too. But here’s the big difference —
consumers like to stay in control. As soon as they turn over their
email address, they lose that control. With Twitter, consumers stay in
total control with the quot;followquot; button, and they can choose to dump
you (ok, quot;not followquot;) anytime they want.

19. We can do it. We have the power.
Easy to “bolt-on” to your current site!

20. Should I blog?
Heck yah! You need a blog.
Blogs are a phenomenon that you cannot ignore, postpone, or
delegate.
Blogs are not a business elective. They're a prerequisite.

21. What about LinkedIn?

older (68% are 35+)
wealthier (66% make $60/year+)
better educated (72% are college grads)

22. The Good News about LinkedIn
For people that are not ready to live and breathe it, Linkedin is an ideal
option because it’s safe, and it’s strictly business.
Very few interactivity options on Linkedin,
Never faced with the “wow, I wish my client didn’t see that picture”
dilemma that’s all too common on Facebook.
Linkedin purposefully does less than Facebook and MySpace.
Connections are controlled. Easy to use. Very little layout control.
Minimal advertising. Few applications. No multi-media. And organized
like an address book, a familiar paradigm.
Thursday, March 26, 2009
23. Okay. So hit me with the bad.
The address book approach makes it easy to treat Linkedin as nothing
more than Outlook contacts with personal profile data.
Linkedin offers an amazing opportunity to grow your network and your
business - whatever it may be.
Because it’s much less flashy and in your face than other social
networks, you have to dig a little to find the good stuff.
Thursday, March 26, 2009
24. And how do I do that, Mr. Nerd?
Setup your profile, connections, link your blog (you have a blog,
right...?), link it to Company Buzz (Twitter search), consider creating a
group
Connect with Clients, Former Clients, and Prospects
Use Search to Find Appropriate Contacts at Target Companies
Use Search to Find Background Information on Personnel at Target
Companies

25. But...But...But. I can’t blog!!

It’s easy. No coding experience required.
Signup takes 10 minutes.
It requires 15-30 minutes to blog.

26. Nerds like experiments. U R 1.
You’re now part of one.

addresses.
If you don’t have a Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, or LinkedIn, GET ONE.
Add these people. Keep adding.
