2. Summary Emoti – Colour Exploration is a new way to explore Plymouth as a Digital City. Using Social Media photograph uploads, emoti – colour exploration analyses sets of photos from different areas of Plymouth. Algorithms are applied to each set of photos and a new emotive colour is created, specific for each space. This information is then passed to a GPS-enabled beacon object. Users hold this object as they navigate through Plymouth following the colour and pattern changes.
3. Project Aims Show Plymouth as a Digital City using a variety of welcoming media Explore aspects of Social Media and Ubiquitous Computing Change the way People use the space
4. Approach What Information can I get from Plymouth? How can I use this information to change people’s perception of and behaviour in the city? How can I establish a dialogue between people and their space from their own media? What is the best way to feed this information back to the user?
5. Ideas! Emotive links to an object Emotion inspired by visualisation – colour, light, sound Social media and geoLocative data feeds
6. Prototype Using twitter feeds and word analysis to extract emotive data from people about Plymouth. Using arduino, bright LED and a GPS unit as an object for the user. Different colour pulsing and colour hue changes in real-time
7. Problems Plymouthians don’t know how to tweet? Available API’s such as twitter4j contain bugs since new twitter API changes Arduino memory and battery life
8. New way forward Panoramio – social media image hub Bigger bootloader for arduino and code tidying Image analysis of photos to influence LED values of specific areas
