clear understanding what needs to be known prior to reading this
text.

Think about why you are reading this particular text. Is it to form an
opinion, to critic a certain writing style, or for research? While reading
revert back to this question to emphasize where your focus should be.

Decide if the information you are reading is relevant to the main idea.
Mark any words you need to research for meaning.
Stop reading when text does not make sense and clarify text before
moving on.

Think if you can relate the text to other text or the text to life
experiences
