Development and implementation of ITS systems and regional collaboration is how we will help the Ports continue to thrive while managing the increased demands on our already congested roadway network .
Only this way will we be able to ensure timely and reliable movement of goods to/from the region and to provide seamless travel throughout the transportation network.
As part of an effort to help manage traffic demand on Port roadways, a travel time system was recently implemented.
With the addition of these readers we will be able to provide Port specific information to truck drivers to help streamline operations not only at the Ports, but also on the roadways connecting the Port to the rest of the region
The major feeders to Port Newark/Port Elizabeth are NJ Turnpike, I-78, Routes 1-9 and 22. (58% North Ave, 38% Port St & 14% Doremus Ave)
With the increase in global demand, larger ships, and more cargo discharged per ship, the focus is shifting from overall capacity of the port to throughput capacity.
One of the Agencyโs main goals is seamless regional travel and customer service.
That is a very simple statement that has a very complicated and extensive framework behind it.
