decisions and
controlled taxes,

There was very little
oppotion due to the
people who opposed
were killed.
A small group could
become rich if they got
closer to the ruler.
Laws were passed easily
and were not held up with

This led to corruption and
there was no freedom to
protest.

that people from a
state should have a
say in how it was
run.
It also meant
freedom to choose
their own religion
and beliefs.

8. American Revolution
It started with the seven years war in which the
native americans were defeated by the British
armies.
Then, the American colonists became stronger and
they owned lands so they were allowed to vote.
They had more political power than the British
citizen.
A man called Grenville proposed a
deal with the french and the native
americans, that the colonists would
not try to establish any new
colonies. However, this plan didn’t
work.

Seven Years war,
so the Americans
should pay a
Stamp Tax that
Grenvilled brought
as they paid very
little tax.
They had fought in
the Seven Years
war, and they put
their lives on it, not
only their taxes.

The native Americans didn’t know why the
British Parliament made them pay taxes if
they didn’t have a MP who represented them.

American Revolution
In 1774 they met at the First Continental Congress
were theydemanded that any new tax would have to
be discuss by their assemblies. But, the British
Parliament REFUSED.
In July, 1776 they met at the Second Continental
Congress were they published their DECLARATION
OF INDEPENDENCE.

Short term:
the american colonists were divided during the
revolution in LOYALISTS and PATRIOTS.
Longer term:
there was a terrible civil war from 1861 to 1865.

THE WORLD TURNED UPSIDE DOWN
Short term:
People ruled by a monarch, overthrown him
because he was governing badly and because he
was threating their liberty.
Longer term:
Britain and the USA remained in good terms and
most of America’s trade continued to be with
Britain.
