WorkOne South Central encompasses 8 counties.
WorkOne Centers in Bedford, Bloomington and Linton are full service locations.
WorkOne Centers in Brown, Davies, Martin, Orange, and Owen counties are express sites and may offer less comprehensive services
All locations can assess, counsel and guide you to be successful in your career goals.
WorkOne can help you find a new or better job, choose a career, access training, or get information you need to succeed in today's ever-evolving workplace.
There are many avenues you can follow with WorkOne. Some services are self guided and some will need you to work with a Case Manager. At the end of this orientation, you should have an idea on what works best for you!

We will begin exploring how to assess your skills
WorkOne offers assessments to review your skills. Please remember all things offered at WorkOne, including the assessments are FREE.
To sign up for WorkKeys testing, you will need to first contact the WorkOne office to be scheduled for a testing date. Work Keys = is an assessment that identifies current work place skills and work readiness skills.
Career Readiness Certificates = demonstrate to an employer that an individual has the essential employability skills for entry level positions. Certificates are given at a Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze level
WIN = is a comprehensive, easy to use system for improving your skills prior to or after taking the work keys assessment. You will be given a username and password to allow for you to utilize this system at your convenience either at or outside of the WorkOne office.
You can use the Indiana Career Explorer as an assessment on your own or with a case managers help.
Indiana Career Explorer = an assessment of an career interest, aptitude and values. It is a useful tool to use when exploring careers.
The results from the TABE assessment will be interpreted in a one on one setting.
These scores are interpreted on a one on one setting and must be done prior to obtaining assistance in training

WIN – we have already reviewed WIN as a skills enhancement tool for math, language, and reading. It also offers a wide array of e-learning solutions for education, workforce development, economic development, learning management and Career Readiness. We will go over the other three items in the following screens
MindLeaders = an on-line learning program offering over 4000 courses on topics from computer software skills to Six Sigma leadership skills.
Skills learned may be applied to • Finding employment • Advancement on the job • Personal growth.
The O*NET website is free and provides a source of occupational information.
It contains information on occupations including what knowledge, skills, and abilities, are needed for specific careers.
Occupational Training = provides training for eligible candidates which may cover costs including: tuition, books and supportive service in a Region 8 approved program.
WorkOne provides the following workshops You are currently attending the orientation workshop. We will continue to explore the additional workshops in this presentation.
Resume Writing workshop will offer detailed explanations as well as a step-by-step process for creating a resume and cover letter. It will include the different formats and strategies of a resume, how to identify your skills, electronic resumes, and the Do’s and Don'ts of a resume.
Interviewing Techniques workshop is to help you prepare for and conduct effective interviews and follow-up strategies. Discussion will be on the interview types, definitions of an interview, answering tough questions, closing the interview, and follow up
Career Research and Exploration workshop will help you increase your understanding and explore your preferences for types of work and careers.
Job Search Techniques will teach job searching techniques to help you find the employment you really want . You’ll learn about the hidden job market, Indiana Career Connect, completing paper and on-line applications, and networking
Unemployment insurance workshop will assist you with unemployment processes and procedures. Learn about vouchers completions and the do’s and don’ts for drawing your benefits.
Healthy Lifestyles workshop will help you identify what’s stopping you from becoming healthy and wealthy. Including how to overcome obstacles, committing to change, monitoring progress, and rewarding your success.
Digital Literacy workshops teach the fundamental features of computer hardware and of Microsoft Windows. It is designed for users with no or minimal computer experience and presented in an easy non threatening atmosphere. You’ll learn the basic concepts required to use a computer, Microsoft Word 2007, and Microsoft Excel 2007.
Financial Literacy workshop will discuss budgeting, tips on managing finances, and how to save money. It will also include community resources and tips on economizing.
Work Readiness workshop will teach skills, qualities, and strategies needed to become and remain successful on the job.
Federal Employment workshop goes over the difference of the federal employment process differs from all other types of employment. Gain an improved understanding of how to find and apply for federal jobs. Learn the procedures necessary to successfully become a federal employee.
WorkOne has many services to offer and refer you to
Employment counseling connects you with employment opportunities as well as community resources to meet your specific needs. Case Managers will help you retain your current job or search for a new one.
Services for Veterans, Service Members and Eligible Family Members. Specific Representatives for Veterans will go over r esources and expertise to assist and prepare to obtain meaningful careers, maximize their employment opportunities, and protect their employment rights.
When you are young, getting a good job can be a tough process. WorkOne offers a variety of materials, Internet links, job fairs, and resources to help you find a great job and plan your career.
Each WorkOne office offers an area to explore and gain valuable information
Multiple Resource Materials including books, video’s on job search, and how to manuals. There are also public computers, and printers.
Disability Computer Work Station = h ardware and software solutions to allow accessibility to job search and other computer resources.
Internet Access for Job Search and Career Exploration.
Assistance in obtaining a General Educational Development Certificate Literacy programs help with the improvement of basic skills including Reading, Math, and Writing , resulting in: • Increased Employability • Earning Power • Self Esteem
WorkOne also offers specialty services in the form of On the Job Training, Work Opportunity Tax Credit as well as Federal Bonding – to those that are eligible
OJT = On-the-Job Training is a program that allows a qualified individual to be hired and trained while working and earning an income.
Work Opportunity Tax Credit promotes the hiring of individuals who qualify as members of target groups by providing tax credits to their employers.
Bonding is a program which provides Fidelity Bonds for at-risk job seekers who could not otherwise be bonded.

Indiana Career Connect (also referred to I.C.C) can be access through the website at any time and location. It is the states job bank. If we know about a job, it is listed here.
If you go to the Indiana Career Connect website, this is the screen you will see.
If this is your first time utilizing the system, please click on the not registered button. If you forgot your username, you can retrieve your information from this site as well.
Job Referrals are provided through Indiana Career Connect. It makes it easy to identify open positions, in your city, county, region or state.
After you log into the Indiana Career Connect System, you can then click on the Job Seeker Services.

Now that you have clicked on the Job Seeker Services, you will be taken to this screen. Here you can click the Find Job Openings link
Highlighted, you can see it is the second link down
The following screen will allow for you to search for job openings. You can enter a key word or just hit the word search.
Here is a sample of all the available jobs in the parameters I set.
Labor Market Information provides valuable information regarding pay scale and occupation demand information for jobs throughout the Nation.
Again, after you log into the Indiana Career Connect System, you can then click on the Labor Market Services.

Here you can click on the links to find specific information to our area
Resume Creation utilizes pre- made templates and allows ‘copy and paste’ formats for up to ten resumes for direct application and other purposes.
We will again go back to the home page and click on the job seeker services
It is highlighted here in the center of the screen and on the left
Once you click on the job seeker service
you will need to click on the resume builder button
You will then follow the prompts to make your resume
Once you have completed answering the information you will be taken to an area to review your resume. This will be saved on your I.C.C. account.
You can also use I.C.C. to identify your skills

Indiana Career Connect spiders employer and other job search web sites for additional job leads. Jobs marked with a gold star are jobs that were directly uploaded from our website. Other job searching sites can post on the I.C.C. site as well, and they do not have a gold star.
The following are simple suggestions to I.C.C.
Do write down the web site and job order number of the jobs you are interested in or have applied to. Don’t provide social security number or other personal information to an unknown web site.
