Dear Judges:
Hello my name is Natalie Granda. I have many goals for myself in life. However,
one of my immediate goals was to successfully finish my senior project. For my senior
project I decided I wanted to test my baking skills and make a three-tiered birthday cake.
My product directly relates to my research paper. I researched the Carlo Bakery,
in New Jersey, which has been made into a household name from the TLC show “Cake
Boss.” I learned about problems they face on a daily basis when making their cakes and
how the overcome those problems. It intimidated me but I was looking forward to see
how I handled the problems that came my way. I faced some small issues that dealt
mainly with fondant. I was difficult to work with when it got too thin or warm. However,
with the right temperature and patience, it turned out better than I could have expected.
My topic relates to the career of a baker. I learned that this career has the potential
to reap a large profit and salary. Although, I do not think I have the patience to be a
baker. There was a lot of frustration that I felt throughout this process. It is very easy for
things to not go the way you expect and I would have to improvise. I do not see myself
opening a bakery in my future.
I think the senior project served its purpose of teaching me something new.
However, I think I was a waste of time. I had to ask off work all of the days that I worked
on my project and I find that more important than I felt the project was. I feel the time I
spent on this could have been put towards something more important to my future. Thank
you for the time you have taken to review my project.
Sincerely,
Natalie Granda
