5. Mission Statement
The Office of Civic Engagement aims to empower students to
be active leaders in their communities, promote critical
thinking about social justice issues, and develop citizens
committed to a lifetime of public service. The Office of Civic
Engagement accomplishes this by providing students with
opportunities to engage in curricular and co-curricular service
that build sustainable, positive relationships with community
partners while reflecting on the social justice issues that affect
communities on a local, national and global level.

9. Nonprofit Capacity Building Coordinator
How did this position come to be?
Cause: In 2009, the McDonough Center for
Leadership and Business at Marietta College
completed an in-depth study about nonprofit
capacity building in the Mid-Ohio Valley.
Effect: Through a grant from the Sisters of St.
Joseph Charitable Fund, I was hired to coordinate
the implementations of the study’s
recommendations.
