4. Mood board
I Have chosen these photos for my mood board because they all relate to the genre I want to
cover. The majority of photos are of artists that are either rap or hip-hop, I have also included
pictures of brands because fashion is a large part of rap and hip-hop as a culture, so it is
important I also include clothing within my magazine.

Younger audience, 15-45.
As the majority of people
who listen to rap are of a
younger audience
I think the social status of the
target audience would be C1,
C2 and D as the higher social
status stereotypically wouldn’t
listen to rap/hip-hop so
therefore wouldn’t be
interested in the magazine.

I am going to choose anti and major for my two
magazines, I am choosing these as I think they
are the most memorable and will stand out the
most on the magazine masthead
11. House Style and Colour Scheme
Layout
The layout of my magazine will be with the main image in the middle
of the front cover, the headlines will surround the main image and the
main headline will be larger than the rest covering a part of the main
image. The masthead will be in the top left corner but will be slightly
covered by the main image.
Colours
For my magazine I am going to use three colours. For my masthead I
am going to use red, as it stands out so will attract people to the
magazine. For the rest of my magazine I will use white for the
background and black for text and headlines as it stands out against
the white making it simple and easy to read.
16. Font Style
For my font styles I have used basic, bold fonts.
This is because it makes it clear and easy to
read on the shelf. The bold font connotes
‘loud’ which is something commonly
associated with rap and hip hop, so instantly
the audience will have an idea on what the
magazine genre is
(Prezident) (Jersey m54)
17. Font Styles Final
The final font I am going to choose is ‘Prezident’ for
ANTI. I have chosen this as it is simple but bold, so
will stand out on the magazine cover attracting
people to buy it.
XXL is my magazine of inspiration, and the font for
their masthead is very similar to the ones I have
chosen. The fonts are very bold and simple. When
my fonts are made white and placed on a coloured
background, it will look very similar to XXL.

20. Target Audience
Both my magazines are of the same genre, therefore the target market for both magazines will be
the same.
Hartley’s Theory
Age: the age would be around 15-40 as most people between this age would be interested in
current music which is what my magazine will have, the majority of older people would be more
interested in music from their time.
Gender: the target gender will be male, as my magazine is going to be rap/hip-hop which is
mainly listened to by males
Katz’s Theory
Inform and Educate: The reader will learn about what the artists are doing or what they are
promoting in the magazine.
Personal identification: The readers may relate to the artist or their stories if they are talking
about having nothing then working hard to gain fame, which may inspire people who have
nothing to go out and make a name for themselves.
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
The audience for this theory I think would be caregivers as the people reading the magazine want
to read the articles about artists they like and sympathize with struggles they are having or
something similar.
Socio-Economics
The majority of people buying the magazine would be from C1 or C2 as the magazine costs quite
a lot for what it is so lower classes may not be able to afford it. Also people of higher classes have
a taste in different music like classical which isn't covered in Q magazine
22. Connotations of Magazine Name
• ANTI means to oppose or go against
• Therefore the connotations behind the name is
that it goes against normal magazine convention,
it is different, more interesting and gives
information that the people want to hear.
• Also as the magazine is in the rap genre, a big
part of the culture of rap is to go against the
system, like the police, for example, most artists
reference committing crimes in their lyrics.
Therefore the name fits perfectly
23. Spending Power
• The genre of my magazine is rap and hip-hop, because of
this my audience will be mid to low on the socio-economic
scale as higher classes do not listen to this genre so will not
buy my magazine.
• Low classes are less likely to buy magazines as it is not an
essential, so they would save their money to buy things
they need because they don’t have much.
• This would mean that my target audience would be mainly
mid class people, around C1 and C2 as these would like the
genre and be able to afford magazines
• Therefore my audience would have quite a high spending
power allowing me to price my magazine at £2.99

44. Connotations behind name of
magazine
• The name Major connotes that the magazine
is big, this could either mean it is popular or a
that it has a large influence on the genre it
covers.
• This will then attract people to buy the
magazine as they want to read a magazine
that everyone is reading so they know all the
latest news that everyone is talking about.
45. Staff equipment and budget summary
Equipments Costs
Office (Leatherhead) £350 x 30 = 10500

Camera (x5) £389 x 30 = 11670
Chairs (x30) £89 x 30 = 2670
Tables (x30) £99 x 30 = 2970
Printer (x2) £1306 x 2 =2612
TOTAL £75475.20
Staff Costs (per person)

Human Resources (3) £23,000 per year

46. Advertising revenue
• In my magazine I'm going to have 10 full page
advertisements, this means that I’m going to
make £30,250 (10 x £3025)
• I'm also going to have 5 half page
advertisements, this means I'm going to make
£7560 (5 x £1512)
• So altogether from advertisements I'm going
to make £37,810 (£30,250 + £7560)
47. Printing costs
• I am going to print 20,000 copies of the
magazine, this is not a very large number but
it is my first printing of the magazine so it is
enough magazines to get an idea of whether
or not it is going to sell. And how many copies
I need to print of the next issue. My magazine
has 28 pages, and a front and back page, to
print a magazine of this size it will cost
£1903.76 altogether
