Fill </li></ul><ul><li>it with plenty of grit, </li></ul><ul><li>sand, scale etc. These </li></ul><ul><li>are just fantastic for </li></ul><ul><li>erosion and abrasion of </li></ul><ul><li>pump internals, especially </li></ul><ul><li>wearing ring and shaft </li></ul><ul><li>sleeve areas. IV – POISON IT <ul><li>Change the fluid you are </li></ul><ul><li>pumping, making sure </li></ul><ul><li>that the materials of </li></ul><ul><li>construction are not </li></ul><ul><li>suitable. For better </li></ul><ul><li>results, add some </li></ul><ul><li>corroding chemical </li></ul><ul><li>additives. Let some hot </li></ul><ul><li>liquids be pumped. Soon </li></ul><ul><li>you will have broken </li></ul><ul><li>suction and discharge </li></ul><ul><li>nozzle and twisted </li></ul><ul><li>castings. If you are lucky </li></ul><ul><li>you could wrench the </li></ul><ul><li>pump clear off its </li></ul><ul><li>bedplate. </li></ul>04/06/11

IX – DROWN IT <ul><li>So you have a packed </li></ul><ul><li>stuffing box and a drain in </li></ul><ul><li>the bearing bracket for gland </li></ul><ul><li>leakage. </li></ul><ul><li>Plug the drain. Liquid leaking </li></ul><ul><li>will collect in the bearing </li></ul><ul><li>brackets. The oil will get </li></ul><ul><li>contaminated and bearings </li></ul><ul><li>will be corroded. </li></ul><ul><li>Alternatively, allow </li></ul><ul><li>excessive leakage the box. </li></ul>04/06/11
  10. 10. X – NEGLECT MEDICAL CHECK-UPS <ul><li>Avoid periodical or annual </li></ul><ul><li>check-ups as recommended </li></ul><ul><li>by the manufacturer. Don’t </li></ul><ul><li>check the packing, gaskets, </li></ul><ul><li>“ O” Rings, gland studs etc. </li></ul><ul><li>New coat of paint, just forget </li></ul><ul><li>it. Never give a shot of </li></ul><ul><li>grease. Change of oil-filter is </li></ul><ul><li>a no-no. Soon your pump will </li></ul><ul><li>be so sick, death is sure. </li></ul>04/06/11
