  2. 2. use the UPI transaction facility beginning April 30, 2023. Non-resident external (NRO) and non-resident ordinary (NRO) accounts will be available. With the National Payments Corporation of India's (NPCI) international arm entering into a pact with payments services operator Worldline, Indian travellers to Europe will soon be able to make payments from their Indian bank accounts using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has directed members of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) ecosystem to allow non-resident account types, such as non-resident external (NRE)/non-resident ordinary (NRO) accounts with international mobile numbers, to be onboarded and transact via UPI. To begin, NPCI will accept transactions from mobile numbers with Singapore, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Oman, Qatar, the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom, in addition to the current domestic country code. The government has asked UPI participants such as Paytm, Google Pay, and others to implement a mechanism by April 30. This is subject to the member banks ensuring that such types of accounts are only permitted in accordance with existing Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) regulations and following the guidelines issued by the RBI's concerned regulatory departments from time to time. Members of the UPI ecosystem must comply with NPCI's instructions by April 30, 2023. Furthermore, the remitter and beneficiary banks must ensure all necessary anti-money laundering/counter-terrorism financing checks and compliance validation in accordance with the rules. To provide UPI services to non-resident account types such as NRE/NRO accounts with international mobile numbers, the following conditions must be met
  3. 3. 1) Member banks must ensure that NRE or NRO accounts are only permitted in accordance with the current FEMA (Foreign Exchange Management Act) regulations and follow the guidelines/instructions issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from time to time. 2) The remitter and beneficiary banks must ensure all necessary anti-money laundering/counter-terrorism financing checks and compliance validation in accordance with the rules.
