   Asia experienced the biggest growth in mobile web traffic but this
    doesn’t leave out Africa with a 155.59% growth between 2010-2012.

   One significant factor for this growth is Nigeria’s 95 million mobile users
   1 in 3 of those purchasers bought clothing or accessories on their device, while nearly 1
    in 4 purchased tickets. 22.3% bought consumer electronics or household appliances,
    while 21.2% chose to purchase meals for delivery/pickup. In the US alone, over 19
    million Americans bought using the smartphones within 3 months of this survey
   In Nigeria of the same month, 56% of smartphone purchasers completed their
    transaction while traveling, leading as the most popular purchase location.
Understanding the opportunities therein
   Mobile marketing has an exciting future shown by its rate of growth – you’ve
    almost certainly seen the statistics to support the claims for an exciting
    future for mobile…
Here are some other statistics you may
not know, which again show the
potential of mobile in the near future:

• The current m-commerce industry is
  predicted to be worth $3.3 billion this
  year, and due to rise to $20.5 billion
  by 2015. These are not numbers that
  a marketer can afford to ignore.

• It takes 26 hours for the average
  person to report a lost wallet. But it
  takes just 68 minutes for them to
  report a lost phone. (Source: Unisys)

• It takes 90 minutes for the average
  person to respond to an email. But it
  takes 90 secondsfor the average
  person to respond to a text message.

So there certainly seems potential for reach
              But how can you

   tap into this potential by
reviewing the options that are
           available?
The SMS or text message was introduced in
the early nineties but took a long time to
become popular.

• In 1995 the average person was
  sending just 0.4 message per
  month.

• In 2010, 6.9 trillion SMS
  messages were sent and SMS
  traffic has now broken the 8
  trillion mark in 2012.

• There are currently 95 million
  mobile phones in Nigeria and
  atleast 5 text messages are
  received each day and 4 out of 5
  are opened.
QR Codes started off in Japan in 2005 and
today, they are effective form of marketiing

•   Lacoste recently used QR codes in their
    shop windows. When users scanned the
    code they were shown further information
    on the collection and other pieces in the
    range.

•   Many magazine and billboards now use
    QR codes to extend the offer on the page
    or to encourage an impulse buy offline.
    This is extremely valuable for offline
    marketing campaigns.

•   QR codes on in-store products to add
    value to the product i.e. adding a QR code
    with recipes to a frying pan. A QR code
    scanner is needed (you can get one in
    mobile App stores).
The launch of the Apple app store in 2007 and the exponential growth of the app and
smartphone market has turned mobile applications into an extremely credible
marketing opportunity
The mobile advertising industry has
exploded over the past couple of years
and ad revenue is predicted to exceed
$3.3 billion by the end of
2012 and a whopping $20.5
billion by 2015. That’s a serious
amount of impressions!

  • 4. Asia experienced the biggest growth in mobile web traffic but this doesn’t leave out Africa with a 155.59% growth between 2010-2012.  One significant factor for this growth is Nigeria’s 95 million mobile users
  • 5. 1 in 3 of those purchasers bought clothing or accessories on their device, while nearly 1 in 4 purchased tickets. 22.3% bought consumer electronics or household appliances, while 21.2% chose to purchase meals for delivery/pickup. In the US alone, over 19 million Americans bought using the smartphones within 3 months of this survey
  • 6. In Nigeria of the same month, 56% of smartphone purchasers completed their transaction while traveling, leading as the most popular purchase location.

Here are some other statistics you may not know, which again show the potential of mobile in the near future: • The current m-commerce industry is predicted to be worth $3.3 billion this year, and due to rise to $20.5 billion by 2015. These are not numbers that a marketer can afford to ignore. • It takes 26 hours for the average person to report a lost wallet. But it takes just 68 minutes for them to report a lost phone.   • 12. So there certainly seems potential for reach But how can you and engagement! tap into this potential by reviewing the options that are available?

The SMS or text message was introduced in the early nineties but took a long time to become popular. • In 1995 the average person was sending just 0.4 message per month. • In 2010, 6.9 trillion SMS messages were sent and SMS traffic has now broken the 8 trillion mark in 2012. • There are currently 95 million mobile phones in Nigeria and atleast 5 text messages are received each day and 4 out of 5 are opened.
  • 14. QR Codes started off in Japan in 2005 and today, they are effective form of marketiing • Lacoste recently used QR codes in their shop windows. When users scanned the code they were shown further information on the collection and other pieces in the range. • Many magazine and billboards now use QR codes to extend the offer on the page or to encourage an impulse buy offline. This is extremely valuable for offline marketing campaigns. • QR codes on in-store products to add value to the product i.e. adding a QR code with recipes to a frying pan. A QR code scanner is needed (you can get one in mobile App stores).
