Will OneWeb continue as a potential global satellite network after chapter 11? This paper looks at what we can learn from previous chapter 11 filings such as ICO and Iridium. It notes that the regulatory ITU filings are not via the US administration. The UK and France control the ITU filings as notifying admins - so their attitudes will be key - and likely not bound by US chapter 11 decisions. This was the case with ICO having its filings revoked by the UK. The paper also looks at what the current constellation of 74 satellites might offer to consumers and how many more satellites might be required (perhaps 300 in total?) to offer consumer grade service in the US. The paper also looks at who the creditors are - nearly 90% from European companies and some European governments being significant creditors indirectly. This may suggest an option to have the network upgraded and used to provide rural broadband coverage for public policy objectives (perhaps in Northern Europe initially).

Network convergence was clearly a hot topic at Broadband World Forum and is on every operator’s mind. Fixed and wireless networks need to go hand-in-hand and this is impacting the operator’s processes, tools and strategy. We gave a presentation at the conference about what an operator need to do to only deploy one fiber network serving businesses, residential premises and antenna sites each with their own needs and requirements. We also covered different ways to foresee spare capacity in the network for future network expansions.

Microwave backhaul plays an important role in providing a good user experience and overall network performance. The backhaul capacity needed per base station differs substantially, depending on target data rates and population density. Microwave backhaul technology is able to handle 100 percent of all radio access sites’ capacity needs. This is true for today as well as in 2020, when it will evolve to support multi-gigabit capacities in traditional frequency bands and beyond 10 gigabits in the millimeter wave.

Access aggregation is a viable option for service providers to boost bandwidth across the last mile in areas where it is too costly to increase the capacity of legacy access. Multipath TCP is ideal for access aggregation in the last mile as it is able to boost bandwidth significantly while simultaneously increasing reliability and ensuring seamless connectivity. Multipath TCP proxies are carrier-grade and optimized for high traffic throughput. They allow service providers to use Multipath TCP for access aggregation without the need for end devices and internet servers to be aware of it, and make it possible to implement traffic-steering policies for the use of available access networks in the most cost-effective and efficient way.

A la découverte du standard OpenStack et de ses APIs OpenStack est la brique logicielle open source sur laquelle s'appuie OVHcloud pour proposer son offre de Public Cloud (compute, storage, network, …). OpenStack permet l’administration complète des ressources à travers une API particulièrement riche. Raison pour laquelle OVHcloud en donne un accès exhaustif aux utilisateurs de son Public Cloud, nombreux à manipuler leurs ressources en lignes de commande. Au fil de ce meetup, nous poserons les bases de l’architecture et du fonctionnement d’OpenStack et de ses différents composants. Nous parlerons ensuite du fonctionnement des APIs OpenStack, éléments clés pour interagir avec OpenStack. Il y a deux ans, nous apprenions notre nouvelle mission : migrer les 3 millions de sites web hébergés dans notre datacentre de Paris. Sans en maitriser le code source, les migrer sans impact nous semblait totalement irréaliste. 18 mois plus tard, c'est terminé ! Pour y arriver, nous avons du configurer des proxy SQL, des tunnels réseau, migrer des IP entre nos datacentres, livrer des milliers de serveurs, bosser durant des dizaines de nuits, mais aussi s'organiser entre plusieurs équipes qui n'ont pas l'habitude de travailler ensemble. Quels sont les soucis technique et humains que nous avons rencontrés, et comment les avons nous résolu ? Retour d'expérience sur l'une des plus grosse migration que le web ai connu !

After some slow years, in 2023 there has been renewed activity on the project, with a roadmap now focused on improving the engine’s CSS 2 conformance, exploring Android support, and making Servo a practical embeddable rendering engine. In this presentation, Rakhi Sharma reviews the status of the project, our recent developments in 2023, our collaboration with Tauri to make Servo an easy-to-use embeddable rendering engine, and our plans for the future to make Servo an alternative web rendering engine for the embedded devices industry.
