ENVIROMENT OF
PRESENTATION
In this slide I have taken various images of the environment where I delivered my pitch to the
publishers. I used a smart board on the right side of the room in order to project my pitch from
Prezi onto it. All of the publishers were situated in front of me in 5 rows all facing me so that
they were able to see and clearly hear what I was explaining in my presentation. Furthermore
in order to change the slides during my pitch I used the clicker tool and this meant that I didn't’t
have to walk back and fourth and could just use this clicker to change slides. Also the pictures
show the camera that I used to record the pitch as well as the tripod that the camera stood on,
and lastly the apple mac that I used to get my presentation up.

EVIDENCE OF PITCH
When I delivered my pitch it was all recorded on a
camera. This enabled me to look back on my pitch and
outline the strengths and weaknesses all based on the
feedback which I received. Based on verbal feedback
that the group gave me who were watching the pitch, the
good things were that I was well presented with my smart
suit, and this echoed confidence due to the smart attire.
This outlined that I knew what I was talking about as I
also did not have a script and connoted high levels of
enthusiasm towards the magazine.
Some negatives of the overall presentation, based on my
feedback was that in general I needed more eye contact
with the audience, furthermore from the video I agree
that I need a little more body movement and audience
interaction to help establish my ideas.
After I had finished my pitch I was handed a witness
statement from the head publisher of the magazine. On this
statement it outlined both areas where I was doing well and
areas were I could have included. By having this information
it allows me to establish what the publisher what's to know
about my magazine and the things that they feel are most
important, so I then used this in order to improve my pitch.
EVIDENCE OF PITCH
I chose to move all my slide for my presentation onto the software called ‘prezi’
which I then used in order to present my pitch with. The reason I chose ‘prezi’ over
just using PowerPoint is because it makes my pitch look much more professional
and there is a range of features I am able to use which makes it run smoothly and
make the overall pitch a higher standard.
FEEDBACK OF PITCH -
WITNESS STATEMENT
WWW – some of the things that went well in my pitch
was that I explained how the magazine will be
marketed in detail, the production plans with lots of
information and also things such as the target
audience for my magazine, which means that I
looked into all the theories with relevant points.
EBI – some of the things that didn't’t go as well in the pitch
were that I didn't’t include enough detail on genre, title,
format and the content in my proposals. As I could of took
time to explain each one in a little more detail. Furthermore
another thing I missed was simply showing both the front
and the DPS when talking about my chosen magazine.
My witness statement is what
the teacher had to fill out while
watching my presentation. While
watching my presentation they
had to outline both the strengths
and weaknesses of my pitch,
and for this the yellow connotes
things I missed in the pitch and
green connotes things that I
explained well in the pitch.
SURVEY MONKEY
After I finished my pitch I put the link for my survey monkey on the board and emailed all the audience so that they
were able to give me feedback as soon as they watched the pitch.
I picked to use ‘survey monkey’ as it’s a very good website where I am able to create a questionnaire very easily
and also its free to create and send the questionnaire out. Furthermore once I send my questionnaire out and
people fill it out the website put all the data that I gathered into tables, charts and just tells me all of the verbal
feedback. This helps me as I can then se the information more visually and com pare questions and see where I
need to improve or how much the audience enjoyed it.
Question 1 – in the first question I asked ‘what do you think I could
do to improve my overall pitch?’. The main responses that I received
from this was to make more eye contact with both the audience and
the camera, as a few different people said this. Others said that I
should have had a scrip and practiced before hand, but I wanted to
look more natural and not be reading off a piece of paper. Lastly a
few people said that I didn't’t have to do anything to improve my
pitch so they must have thought I did very well. So overall in order to
make my pitch as good as possible I can have made the audience
feel a little more involved in my pitch when I was explaining it to
them.
SURVEY MONKEY
Question 2 - In the second question I asked ‘did you think my
magazine covers were appealing?’ and I only received 2 responses.
These two responses were ‘very appealing’ and quite appealing’
which was a very good response as these were the top 2 best
responses I could have received and I was not expecting everyone
to like them this much. This then actually tells me that the way I laid
out the different conventions on my magazine worked well together
and were used in the right way in order to appeal to my audience.
Question 3 - In the third question I asked ‘what do you think I can do to improve my
magazine front cover?’ and in this question I got a wide range of answers from this. First of
all 2 people believed that I should of changed the font styles, 2 people said to change the
main image, 3 people said nothing should be changed, 2 said different advertisement and
1 said other. So in conclusion I don’t think there was a big issue with anything in my front
covers as there was not a certain convention that people swayed towards. However the
fact that the most highly picked response was changing nothing and linking to question 2 I
feel that overall my front covers were very appealing and there was not much that could be
changed in order to make them better.
SURVEY MONKEY
Question 4 – in question four I asked ‘do you think that I covered everything from
the mark scheme?’ and I got 2 responses which were that 6 people said ‘yes’ and
4 people said ‘most of it’. This was very good feedback because of the fact that In
the eyes of the audience I either covered all of the information needed or ,most of
it. Furthermore even if people thought I covered most of it that means I only left out
one or two things and that would be very quick and easy to fix this things in order
to make sure I included everything needed to cover the whole mark scheme.
Question 5 – for question five I asked ‘were my proposals detailed enough?’ and
I got a very good response for this. Overall I got 9/10 people saying that my
proposals included everything that they needed to and they were in a good
amount of detail. However one person suggested that my proposals could have
been a little more detailed, so in their eyes I could have had more information to
make it the best it could be. Overall though my proposals were in a good amount
of detail and my response connotes this through the feedback I was given.
SURVEY MONKEY
Question 6 – in this question I asked the audience ‘what would you
change about my magazine front cover?’ and got a wide range of
responses. The responses included things such as ‘make the image
bigger’, ‘make the image HD’, ‘the color’ and ‘the image was
stretched’. So overall there was many little improvements that people
thought I could have made but they were around the same lines and
these improvements were not very hard to make.
Question 7 – in this question I asked them ‘did I target the right
audience?’ and in fact every single person gave me the
response ‘yes’. So overall in the production of my magazine I
was aiming at the exact right audience and everyone watching
my pitch also agreed with me on that.
PITCH IMPROVEMENTS
Front cover corrections –
From the structured feedback that I have gained after taking part in my presentation, from two members of
staff who filled out the witness statement the first piece of feedback I received was that I should make my
strapline all on one line as at the moment it looks more like a cover story. In order to do this I will have to
take the layer and resize the text or change the font size so that all of the writing fits on one line without
overlapping the main image or any other cover stories.
Another feature that was suggested to change was where I had placed my headline because I had a large
word ‘unstoppable’ across the lower middle but it was in fact not my headline so I moved this up to the top
right as a cover line where my headline was and made it smaller by holding command ‘T’ and then holding
down shift while changing size.
Once I moved the headline to where it should be I then added a gradient to the text in order to make it
stand out as it should, after this I went to the text properties and added a stroke to the text so that it had a
little black behind the text to make it stand out that little bit more.
PITCH IMPROVEMENTS
PITCH IMPROVEMENTS
Competitors – this is a significant area that should be addressed when
producing my magazine. This is due to the fact that when releasing and
marketing my magazine I need to know who my competitors are and how
they have become a big magazine in the same genre. When doing my
pitch I did not have any information on who my competitors were so I
researched and found several magazines such as ‘VIBE’ and ‘XXL’. I
then produced a slide on these competitors and added this into my pitch
so that I had gained all information on who I am competing with.
Spending power – this was another place where I needed to add
more information in order to cover all information on the spending
power and socio-economic needs of my target audience of my
magazine. I did this by firstly finding which ages I was targeting my
magazine which was between 16-24 which is quite young which is
why I picked the 3 lowest category's in the socio-economic table.
Overall I chose to talk about how I was targeting a low level of
spending power and then linked this in with the fact that my magazine
is priced very low for a monthly issue.

This was my 5 week production plan and in this I explained the exact process and
all the steps I will go through in order to produce and release my magazine. This
explained steps such as getting my photographers to take photos of the artist for the
magazine front covers on certain days, and showing people that the workers will get
weekends off ect.
CALENDAR EVENTS
My magazine will be produced all throughout January and then will be
launched on the 10th of February.
There are no major dates that interfere with the launch of my
magazine as it is early on in the year, however this could be a good
thing due to the fact that a new year means a new start to some
people so they might be looking for new things and new music top find
out about so my magazine launch would highly appeal to them.
But the down side is that it has just been both Christmas and new
years which means the young audience that I appeal to may not have
much money at this time due to spending large amounts over this
period.
ETHICAL & LEGAL ISSUES
ETHICAL & LEGAL ISSUES
• IPSO – Editors code of practice
• Each code has to be adhered (followed) by the publisher magazine
• E.g. accuracy
• Reporting of events or people
• Data protection act
This effects ‘Top Dolla' magazine as for example when I am
releasing a new copy of the magazine I will have to be as
accurate as possible in making sure that the press take care
not to publish inaccurate, misleading or distorted information
or images, including headlines not supported by the text.
Furthermore on the note of privacy I would have to make sure
that everyone is entitled to respect for his or her private and
family life, home, health and correspondence, including digital
communications.
RISK ASSESSMENT
I had to take into consideration a risk assessment when I both taking and editing the photos I was using for my front cover and
double page spread. This meant that I had to look into things such as ‘safe working practices’ and how these things could effect the
final images that I used.
Image risk assessment –
Permissions:
This picture on the left shows the release form that I gave to the artist in
order to get their permission to take the photos. I am doing this
because before taking the images I had to get full permission to get
photographed and also to allow it to both be published online and on
print based media. I decided to send the artist an email explaining them
what to wear and where the pictures will be taken and then attached
this permission slip as well telling them to fill it out with their signature,
date and address details. As I have gained permission it means that my
magazine has proof from a signed document, so if there was any legal
problems in the future my magazine will not be involved or blamed.
-Area Assessment:
When looking and choosing the location for the images there were several area checks that had to be done before the photos
were taken. A risk assessment had to be filled out in order to make sure both the artist and the photographers were kept safe.
The sorts of areas that would have to be assessed would be areas with uneven ground, heights, bad weather conditions or
running water.
RISK ASSESSMENT
Software risk assessment
-resizing an image:
I inserted an image that I had downloaded of the internet of a t-shirt that the audience
can win but when I uploaded it was very small. So I had to think of a way that I would
be able to resize the image with no evidence of resizing pixilation. The best method I
thought to use was to first use the ‘transformation tool’ on adobe Photoshop which is
‘command’ ‘T’ and these makes the image be able to be resized and moved. The next
step is to resizer the image but to make sure it stays high quality I have to ensure I
hold down the ‘shift key’ on the keyboard. I do this as these tool keeps the dimensions
of the image the same so that it does not get stretched or distorted it is just the exact
same image but bigger/smaller.
-eyedropper Tool:
the best way for me to maintain consistency throughout my ‘top dolla’ magazine was
to keep all the colors the same. On the software I am using there is something called
the ‘eyedropper tool’ that really helps the consistency as it enables you to choose a
color from an object, then you can actually save these color onto a swatches pallet.
This meant that every time I was producing headlines or object I could go to my
swatches pallet and this color would be saved and I can then easily and quickly make
all the things I want to the same color which speeds up the making of my magazine
and also makes it a lot more professional and all colors are kept the same.
CONCLUSION
Overall in this learning outcome I looked deeper into all the feedback I gained from the
peers and others after I executed my pitch. What this meant was that in detail I had to
analyze lots of the suggested improvements, like for example I looked into what how
people answered certain survey monkey questions and deconstructed their answers to
see how it would affect the production of my magazine. The sorts of forms I received
feedback through was things such as structured, survey monkey and witness
statements.
When I deconstructed the survey monkey answers I did this by putting them into
graphs, such as bar or pie charts which gave me a better perspective on what people
thought was needed to improve and what people liked about the pitch.
Moreover I felt as if it would benefit me to also look into legal and ethical issues that I
would have to take into consideration when creating the hip hop genre based magazine.

Unit 13 - LO4/LO5

  • 1.
  • 2. ENVIROMENT OF PRESENTATION In this slide I have taken various images of the environment where I delivered my pitch to the publishers. I used a smart board on the right side of the room in order to project my pitch from Prezi onto it. All of the publishers were situated in front of me in 5 rows all facing me so that they were able to see and clearly hear what I was explaining in my presentation. Furthermore in order to change the slides during my pitch I used the clicker tool and this meant that I didn't’t have to walk back and fourth and could just use this clicker to change slides. Also the pictures show the camera that I used to record the pitch as well as the tripod that the camera stood on, and lastly the apple mac that I used to get my presentation up. The clicker that was used Apple mac computer that was used The smart board that was used to project the presentation The camera used to record the pitch The tripod used to hold the camera during the pitch
  • 3. EVIDENCE OF PITCH When I delivered my pitch it was all recorded on a camera. This enabled me to look back on my pitch and outline the strengths and weaknesses all based on the feedback which I received. Based on verbal feedback that the group gave me who were watching the pitch, the good things were that I was well presented with my smart suit, and this echoed confidence due to the smart attire. This outlined that I knew what I was talking about as I also did not have a script and connoted high levels of enthusiasm towards the magazine. Some negatives of the overall presentation, based on my feedback was that in general I needed more eye contact with the audience, furthermore from the video I agree that I need a little more body movement and audience interaction to help establish my ideas. After I had finished my pitch I was handed a witness statement from the head publisher of the magazine. On this statement it outlined both areas where I was doing well and areas were I could have included. By having this information it allows me to establish what the publisher what's to know about my magazine and the things that they feel are most important, so I then used this in order to improve my pitch.
  • 4. EVIDENCE OF PITCH I chose to move all my slide for my presentation onto the software called ‘prezi’ which I then used in order to present my pitch with. The reason I chose ‘prezi’ over just using PowerPoint is because it makes my pitch look much more professional and there is a range of features I am able to use which makes it run smoothly and make the overall pitch a higher standard.
  • 5.
  • 6. FEEDBACK OF PITCH - WITNESS STATEMENT WWW – some of the things that went well in my pitch was that I explained how the magazine will be marketed in detail, the production plans with lots of information and also things such as the target audience for my magazine, which means that I looked into all the theories with relevant points. EBI – some of the things that didn't’t go as well in the pitch were that I didn't’t include enough detail on genre, title, format and the content in my proposals. As I could of took time to explain each one in a little more detail. Furthermore another thing I missed was simply showing both the front and the DPS when talking about my chosen magazine. My witness statement is what the teacher had to fill out while watching my presentation. While watching my presentation they had to outline both the strengths and weaknesses of my pitch, and for this the yellow connotes things I missed in the pitch and green connotes things that I explained well in the pitch.
  • 7. SURVEY MONKEY After I finished my pitch I put the link for my survey monkey on the board and emailed all the audience so that they were able to give me feedback as soon as they watched the pitch. I picked to use ‘survey monkey’ as it’s a very good website where I am able to create a questionnaire very easily and also its free to create and send the questionnaire out. Furthermore once I send my questionnaire out and people fill it out the website put all the data that I gathered into tables, charts and just tells me all of the verbal feedback. This helps me as I can then se the information more visually and com pare questions and see where I need to improve or how much the audience enjoyed it. Question 1 – in the first question I asked ‘what do you think I could do to improve my overall pitch?’. The main responses that I received from this was to make more eye contact with both the audience and the camera, as a few different people said this. Others said that I should have had a scrip and practiced before hand, but I wanted to look more natural and not be reading off a piece of paper. Lastly a few people said that I didn't’t have to do anything to improve my pitch so they must have thought I did very well. So overall in order to make my pitch as good as possible I can have made the audience feel a little more involved in my pitch when I was explaining it to them.
  • 8. SURVEY MONKEY Question 2 - In the second question I asked ‘did you think my magazine covers were appealing?’ and I only received 2 responses. These two responses were ‘very appealing’ and quite appealing’ which was a very good response as these were the top 2 best responses I could have received and I was not expecting everyone to like them this much. This then actually tells me that the way I laid out the different conventions on my magazine worked well together and were used in the right way in order to appeal to my audience. Question 3 - In the third question I asked ‘what do you think I can do to improve my magazine front cover?’ and in this question I got a wide range of answers from this. First of all 2 people believed that I should of changed the font styles, 2 people said to change the main image, 3 people said nothing should be changed, 2 said different advertisement and 1 said other. So in conclusion I don’t think there was a big issue with anything in my front covers as there was not a certain convention that people swayed towards. However the fact that the most highly picked response was changing nothing and linking to question 2 I feel that overall my front covers were very appealing and there was not much that could be changed in order to make them better.
  • 9. SURVEY MONKEY Question 4 – in question four I asked ‘do you think that I covered everything from the mark scheme?’ and I got 2 responses which were that 6 people said ‘yes’ and 4 people said ‘most of it’. This was very good feedback because of the fact that In the eyes of the audience I either covered all of the information needed or ,most of it. Furthermore even if people thought I covered most of it that means I only left out one or two things and that would be very quick and easy to fix this things in order to make sure I included everything needed to cover the whole mark scheme. Question 5 – for question five I asked ‘were my proposals detailed enough?’ and I got a very good response for this. Overall I got 9/10 people saying that my proposals included everything that they needed to and they were in a good amount of detail. However one person suggested that my proposals could have been a little more detailed, so in their eyes I could have had more information to make it the best it could be. Overall though my proposals were in a good amount of detail and my response connotes this through the feedback I was given.
  • 10. SURVEY MONKEY Question 6 – in this question I asked the audience ‘what would you change about my magazine front cover?’ and got a wide range of responses. The responses included things such as ‘make the image bigger’, ‘make the image HD’, ‘the color’ and ‘the image was stretched’. So overall there was many little improvements that people thought I could have made but they were around the same lines and these improvements were not very hard to make. Question 7 – in this question I asked them ‘did I target the right audience?’ and in fact every single person gave me the response ‘yes’. So overall in the production of my magazine I was aiming at the exact right audience and everyone watching my pitch also agreed with me on that.
  • 11. PITCH IMPROVEMENTS Front cover corrections – From the structured feedback that I have gained after taking part in my presentation, from two members of staff who filled out the witness statement the first piece of feedback I received was that I should make my strapline all on one line as at the moment it looks more like a cover story. In order to do this I will have to take the layer and resize the text or change the font size so that all of the writing fits on one line without overlapping the main image or any other cover stories. Another feature that was suggested to change was where I had placed my headline because I had a large word ‘unstoppable’ across the lower middle but it was in fact not my headline so I moved this up to the top right as a cover line where my headline was and made it smaller by holding command ‘T’ and then holding down shift while changing size. Once I moved the headline to where it should be I then added a gradient to the text in order to make it stand out as it should, after this I went to the text properties and added a stroke to the text so that it had a little black behind the text to make it stand out that little bit more.
  • 13. PITCH IMPROVEMENTS Competitors – this is a significant area that should be addressed when producing my magazine. This is due to the fact that when releasing and marketing my magazine I need to know who my competitors are and how they have become a big magazine in the same genre. When doing my pitch I did not have any information on who my competitors were so I researched and found several magazines such as ‘VIBE’ and ‘XXL’. I then produced a slide on these competitors and added this into my pitch so that I had gained all information on who I am competing with. Spending power – this was another place where I needed to add more information in order to cover all information on the spending power and socio-economic needs of my target audience of my magazine. I did this by firstly finding which ages I was targeting my magazine which was between 16-24 which is quite young which is why I picked the 3 lowest category's in the socio-economic table. Overall I chose to talk about how I was targeting a low level of spending power and then linked this in with the fact that my magazine is priced very low for a monthly issue.

  • 23. PRODUCTION PLAN WEEK 5 Week beginning: February 6th 2017 Saturday Sunday Weekends off Weekends off Complete by: Complete by: This was my 5 week production plan and in this I explained the exact process and all the steps I will go through in order to produce and release my magazine. This explained steps such as getting my photographers to take photos of the artist for the magazine front covers on certain days, and showing people that the workers will get weekends off ect.
  • 24. CALENDAR EVENTS My magazine will be produced all throughout January and then will be launched on the 10th of February. There are no major dates that interfere with the launch of my magazine as it is early on in the year, however this could be a good thing due to the fact that a new year means a new start to some people so they might be looking for new things and new music top find out about so my magazine launch would highly appeal to them. But the down side is that it has just been both Christmas and new years which means the young audience that I appeal to may not have much money at this time due to spending large amounts over this period.
  • 25. ETHICAL & LEGAL ISSUES
  • 26. ETHICAL & LEGAL ISSUES • IPSO – Editors code of practice • Each code has to be adhered (followed) by the publisher magazine • E.g. accuracy • Reporting of events or people • Data protection act This effects ‘Top Dolla' magazine as for example when I am releasing a new copy of the magazine I will have to be as accurate as possible in making sure that the press take care not to publish inaccurate, misleading or distorted information or images, including headlines not supported by the text. Furthermore on the note of privacy I would have to make sure that everyone is entitled to respect for his or her private and family life, home, health and correspondence, including digital communications.
  • 27. RISK ASSESSMENT I had to take into consideration a risk assessment when I both taking and editing the photos I was using for my front cover and double page spread. This meant that I had to look into things such as ‘safe working practices’ and how these things could effect the final images that I used. Image risk assessment – Permissions: This picture on the left shows the release form that I gave to the artist in order to get their permission to take the photos. I am doing this because before taking the images I had to get full permission to get photographed and also to allow it to both be published online and on print based media. I decided to send the artist an email explaining them what to wear and where the pictures will be taken and then attached this permission slip as well telling them to fill it out with their signature, date and address details. As I have gained permission it means that my magazine has proof from a signed document, so if there was any legal problems in the future my magazine will not be involved or blamed. -Area Assessment: When looking and choosing the location for the images there were several area checks that had to be done before the photos were taken. A risk assessment had to be filled out in order to make sure both the artist and the photographers were kept safe. The sorts of areas that would have to be assessed would be areas with uneven ground, heights, bad weather conditions or running water.
  • 28. RISK ASSESSMENT Software risk assessment -resizing an image: I inserted an image that I had downloaded of the internet of a t-shirt that the audience can win but when I uploaded it was very small. So I had to think of a way that I would be able to resize the image with no evidence of resizing pixilation. The best method I thought to use was to first use the ‘transformation tool’ on adobe Photoshop which is ‘command’ ‘T’ and these makes the image be able to be resized and moved. The next step is to resizer the image but to make sure it stays high quality I have to ensure I hold down the ‘shift key’ on the keyboard. I do this as these tool keeps the dimensions of the image the same so that it does not get stretched or distorted it is just the exact same image but bigger/smaller. -eyedropper Tool: the best way for me to maintain consistency throughout my ‘top dolla’ magazine was to keep all the colors the same. On the software I am using there is something called the ‘eyedropper tool’ that really helps the consistency as it enables you to choose a color from an object, then you can actually save these color onto a swatches pallet. This meant that every time I was producing headlines or object I could go to my swatches pallet and this color would be saved and I can then easily and quickly make all the things I want to the same color which speeds up the making of my magazine and also makes it a lot more professional and all colors are kept the same.
  • 29. CONCLUSION Overall in this learning outcome I looked deeper into all the feedback I gained from the peers and others after I executed my pitch. What this meant was that in detail I had to analyze lots of the suggested improvements, like for example I looked into what how people answered certain survey monkey questions and deconstructed their answers to see how it would affect the production of my magazine. The sorts of forms I received feedback through was things such as structured, survey monkey and witness statements. When I deconstructed the survey monkey answers I did this by putting them into graphs, such as bar or pie charts which gave me a better perspective on what people thought was needed to improve and what people liked about the pitch. Moreover I felt as if it would benefit me to also look into legal and ethical issues that I would have to take into consideration when creating the hip hop genre based magazine.
