• India is one of the ancient civilisations in the world.
• It has progressed gradually in economy.
• India has a rich history of itself and has found
appearance in history’s of other countries.
• It has contributed significantly towards the field of
industry, agriculture, technology ,mathematics etc.
• India has 28 States and 7 Union territories.

India is a vast country lying entirely in the northern
hemisphere in Asia.
• The land is between the latitudes 8o
4’and 37o6’N and
longitudes 68o
7’E and 97o
25’E.
• The tropic of cancer divides the country into 2 parts.
• The Andaman and Nicobar islands and the Lakshadweep
islands in the Bay of Bengal and Arabian sea are also a
part of India.

• The land mass of India has an area of 3.28
million square km.
• India has 2.4 % of total land area of the world.
• India is the 7th largest country of the world.
• I has a boundary of about 15,200 km including
Andaman and Nicobar islands and
Lakshadweep.

• India has the longest coastline. Because of this an
ocean is named after India- Indian ocean
• In 1969 the Suez canal was opened which reduced

importance.
• India is the most populous country with more than
1.2 billion people.
• It is also the most populous democracy in the world
