INTELLIGENCE?
If psychology is part of your regular science coverage, you’re
likely familiar with literature on “emotional intelligence”:
non-cognitive competencies associated with the identifi-
cation and regulation of emotions.
You might also be familiar with literature on the construct
known as “grit”: non-cognitive competencies associated with
motivation and drive.
Separately, these competencies each tell an incomplete story.

Plato, who recognized that the
psyche was composed of
three fundamentally different
sets of skills: the cognitive
(thought), the affective (emo-
tion) and the conative (will).

5. PUTTING THEM TOGETHER
There are plenty of models that measure cognitive
intelligence. Measuring different non-cognitive competencies
(emotional, social and motivational) is a new approach filled
with possibilities. We call this construct “Personal Intelligence”
and debuted it in Florence, Italy in 2019.
