This document analyzes catchment areas and gateway ports for trade between regions in Germany, Austria, and Northern Italy. It identifies key gateway ports including Hamburg, Rotterdam, and Ravenna and examines 2010 trade data on freight volumes and key commodities moving between the catchment areas and gateway ports. The analysis shows that while Ravenna captures a relatively small share of total freight movements, it has larger market shares for trade with countries like Greece and Israel.
