Submit: After an online session with a librarian from Appalachian
State's Belk Library, create an annotated bibliography where you
identify and describe at least 3 research articles on technology in
education that interest you.
Where: Submit a link to a Goolgle Doc within AsULearn
Due: November 15, in AsULearn

Submit: Create a 7 to 10 slide presentation, to inform us about
the topic.

Group A: 21st century skills - what skills are needed?
Group B: 21st century students - who are they, how are they
unique?
Group C: 21st century teachers - what knowledge, skills, and
dispositions are needed?
Group D: 21st century classrooms - what facilities and tools are
needed?
Group E: 21st century assessment - how to assess students,
teachers, and schools?

When: Sep-29 to Oct 25
Who: In a group (choice of topic groups in AsULearn)
What:
• Read "Computers as Mindtools for Engaging Learners in
Critical Thinking" and other readings on the subject of
Mindtools
• Choose one Mindtools project group
• Develop with your Mindtools project group a 15 minute
presentation on your chosen category
Due: Post your Mindtools category project on the wall in
OpenQwaq on or before Sunday, October 25.

On or after Sep-1: Please use the "Mindtools Project
Group (choose)" link in AsULearn to join one of groups

MINDTOOLS

Who: As an individual, or in a group of your choosing
What:
• Develop a project to share with other educators related to
effective use of Mindtools in education.
• Plan a unit incorporating at least one of the Mindtools
discussed this semester.
• Provide lesson plans and implementation plans.
• Develop a website (Google Sites, etc.) with your plans.
Due: Post project URL on the wall in OpenQwaq on or before
Sunday, Dec-6. Present in our final class on Tuesday, Dec-8.

First, imagine a child that you care about who
is starting kindergarten this year. Then
consider these questions:
• What will the world be like 20 years from now, when
your child has left school and is out in the world?
• What skills will your child need to be successful in this
world you have imagined 20 years from now?
• What conditions made your high-performance learning
experiences so powerful?

  • 2. MEETING DATES Synchronous Meeting Dates We meet throughout this semester synchronously in OpenQwaq, to begin the class, discuss topics, and view your project presentations. The meeting dates are: • Tuesday Aug 25 • Tuesday Sep 8 • Tuesday Sep 29 • Tuesday Oct 27 • Tuesday Dec 8 All meetings will be held in our OpenQwaq ITC-5220 forum, starting at 7:30 PM

DISCUSSION GROUPS Discussion groups (3 to 4 members) have been setup for discussing the textbook: The World is Flat When: Now through early November Who: As a group (3-4 members listed in AsULearn) What: • In your group, address study questions for The World is Flat • Post individual responses within group Google Docs • Share your Google Doc / folder with the instructor Where: In Google Drive (group folder) and Google Docs

RESEARCH ON EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY When: Sep-8 to Nov-15 What: Discover research about trends in educational technologies Who: As an individual Submit: After an online session with a librarian from Appalachian State's Belk Library, create an annotated bibliography where you identify and describe at least 3 research articles on technology in education that interest you. Where: Submit a link to a Goolgle Doc within AsULearn Due: November 15, in AsULearn

  • 11. 21ST CENTURY EDUCATION When: Now through Sep-27 What: Complete a presentation on 21st century teaching and learning with your reading group Who: Your reading group (for The World is Flat) Submit: Create a 7 to 10 slide presentation, to inform us about the topic. Where: Submit overview presentation in AsULearn and OpenQwaq Due: Sunday September 27, in OpenQwaq and submit in AsULearn
  • 12. 21ST CENTURY EDUCATION Group A: 21st century skills - what skills are needed? Group B: 21st century students - who are they, how are they unique? Group C: 21st century teachers - what knowledge, skills, and dispositions are needed? Group D: 21st century classrooms - what facilities and tools are needed? Group E: 21st century assessment - how to assess students, teachers, and schools?

MINDTOOLS IN EDUCATION When: Sep-29 to Oct 25 Who: In a group (choice of topic groups in AsULearn) What: • Read "Computers as Mindtools for Engaging Learners in Critical Thinking" and other readings on the subject of Mindtools • Choose one Mindtools project group • Develop with your Mindtools project group a 15 minute presentation on your chosen category Due: Post your Mindtools category project on the wall in OpenQwaq on or before Sunday, October 25.

MINDTOOLS IN EDUCATION On or after Sep-1: Please use the "Mindtools Project Group (choose)" link in AsULearn to join one of groups assigned to the following categories: • Dynamic Modeling Tools • Knowledge Construction Tools • Information Interpretation Tools • Conversation Tools • Semantic Organization Tools
  • 16. PROJECT 3: APPLICATIONS OF MINDTOOLS ITC 5220:: ACTIVITIES AND PROJECTS
  • 17. APPLICATIONS OF MINDTOOLS When: Oct-27 to Dec-6 Who: As an individual, or in a group of your choosing What: • Develop a project to share with other educators related to effective use of Mindtools in education. • Plan a unit incorporating at least one of the Mindtools discussed this semester. • Provide lesson plans and implementation plans. • Develop a website (Google Sites, etc.) with your plans. Due: Post project URL on the wall in OpenQwaq on or before Sunday, Dec-6. Present in our final class on Tuesday, Dec-8.

Then consider these questions: • What will the world be like 20 years from now, when your child has left school and is out in the world? • What skills will your child need to be successful in this world you have imagined 20 years from now? • What conditions made your high-performance learning experiences so powerful? Your response to Questions 1 to 4 due in the discussion board in AsULearn by Aug-30
