It is critical for Design and Project Management to be true collaborators in getting things done. This session aims to help UX practitioners advance their careers and be more successful in collaborating with individuals with different motivations and mindsets, and who often speak a different language. The session shares insights on Project Management and offers ways that the UX profession can help business understand the strategic value of Design within the enterprise. The majority of the world’s enterprises still operate projects in a “traditional” sense. Project Managers are eager to learn more about Design (e.g. managing innovation), but frequently harbor trepidation or misunderstanding of UX and are unsure how to incorporate Design on their projects. Join this session to learn how the strategic partnership between Design and Project Management can evangelize UX as a force for change and innovation and help PMs operate in a more flexible, discovery-driven world.

His presentation, “KM’ing your Content”, provided a glimpse into the common challenges related to the content an organization generates - Findability, Relevancy, Redundancy, Complexity, and Consistency. To meet these challenges, he focused on a variety of high value, yet easily implemented techniques that can provide organizations with findable, shareable, useable content.

As web professionals we’re used to hearing about the virtues of shipping fast and iterating regularly in order to meet changing needs, but how do we ensure that the projects that we’re planning now are still as relevant and robust when they launch in the future... and beyond? How do we prepare for the unknowns and constant shifts in technology; what can we do to progress the evolution of the web itself; and how do we, as individuals, ensure that our skills are as relevant as ever in this rapidly changing world? In this talk we’ll look at past visions of the future, what we can learn from these lessons, and how to apply this in a practical sense to the work that we do. A written version of this talk is available at: http://www.sallyjenkinson.co.uk/blog/2015/09/26/all-these-moments-will-be-lost-in-time/

The modern digital era demands a more responsive and insight-driven approach to the way we run our business, with technology becoming more and more at the heart of value creation. It requires technology and business leaders to let go of their job titles and bring their domain expertise together to remain relevant in today's complex adaptive system. Very few people come ready with the complete package required for digital transformation, so how do you develop the right skills and mindset to develop digital leadership within yourself and across your teams?

In this session we will discuss the importance of creating a Digital Workplace Transformation Strategy to ensure a successful Digital Workplace Transformation. In this highly interactive session, we’ll share key aspects of a Digital Workplace Strategy and discuss how to engage business stakeholders, drive user adoption, and realize a true return on your organization’s investment in SharePoint and 0365. Large, established organizations fear disruption from big tech and startups. In trying to thwart that they have resorted to several approaches to innovation to scale such as labs, acquisitions and spin-outs. Most have not succeed often due to the impediments that corporate culture and organizational design bring. The Innovation Engine is a framework developed by Andrew Breen which addresses these issues. Andrew has built this not only from his experience building eight tech startups but also in his current role building a Lean startup at American Express.

We share how we use visualization to gain requirements clarity *now* when working with clients on their project requirements. Traditional methods provide for requirements clarity much too late - when it's cost or time prohibitive. We show how using the power of visualization and our Stream Process™ we have saved our clients a tremendous amount of time and money. While each project is unique, our approach has reduced requirements-related defects by up to 90% and saved overall project costs by up to 50%. We have also helped to launch projects up to 35% faster and with more features than when following a traditional requirements process.

In this session, we will examine the notion of 'innovation' with the goal of enabling new ideas within your team. This starts by challenging the concept of what innovation means and where new ideas originate. Techniques will be offered for building a culture of innovation which include: how to curate ideas, inspire teams, build innovative mindsets, create better processes and deal with change. By the end of the session, attendees will gain new strategies that foster an environment of empowerment, creativity and collaboration.

This presentation will examine the purpose and application of information architecture for the so-called ‘next generation’ of information tools, including blogs and wikis. We will introduce ‘needs based’ information architecture, the methodology used for organising and designing information-rich environments in a way that allows people to use them more easily. We will then look at how the best practice principles behind this approach apply equally well to emerging technologies. Presented at Open Publish 2007, by Patrick Kennedy of Step Two Designs.

If you are looking to generate engaging digital experiences but are unsure where to begin, leveraging the knowledge within your organization is a good starting point. However, information is typically dispersed across the company in silos. Different business units often have their own vernacular. Design thinking provides a common language. It’s a customer-centric approach to problem solving that is both creative and practical. Industry leaders have been using design thinking methodology to work with cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams to create innovative customer journeys. Learn how in our recorded webinar, Optimize Customer Experiences with Design Thinking. You will learn: • Why leverage design thinking • How to successfully lead a remote workshop • How to document winning customer journeys • How to map desired experiences in Signavio for builders

While Office 365 continues to grow at a rapid rate, adoption can be slow and difficult without a strategy in place. This presentation covers a number of different topics that all have an impact on end user adoption and engagement. This presentation shares: a "go to market" strategy for a successful Office 365 deployment; productivity features that will enhance adoption; strategies for keeping end users engaged; how to track usage and activity so you can measure your success; and touches on many of the productivity features (Groups, Delve, Yammer, co-editing, etc). The primary focus, however, is on the management/ongoing educational aspects of a successful deployment.

The microservices honeymoon is over. When starting a new project or revamping a legacy monolith, teams started looking for alternatives to microservices. The Modular Monolith, or 'Modulith', is an architecture that reaps the benefits of (vertical) functional decoupling without the high costs associated with separate deployments. This talk will delve into the advantages and challenges of this progressive architecture, beginning with exploring the concept of a 'module', its internal structure, public API, and inter-module communication patterns. Supported by spring-modulith, the talk provides practical guidance on addressing the main challenges of a Modultith Architecture: finding and guarding module boundaries, data decoupling, and integration module-testing. You should not miss this talk if you are a software architect or tech lead seeking practical, scalable solutions. About the author With two decades of experience, Victor is a Java Champion working as a trainer for top companies in Europe. Five thousands developers in 120 companies attended his workshops, so he gets to debate every week the challenges that various projects struggle with. In return, Victor summarizes key points from these workshops in conference talks and online meetups for the European Software Crafters, the world’s largest developer community around architecture, refactoring, and testing. Discover how Victor can help you on victorrentea.ro : company training catalog, consultancy and YouTube playlists.

Retrieval augmented generation (RAG) is the most popular style of large language model application to emerge from 2023. The most basic style of RAG works by vectorizing your data and injecting it into a vector database like Milvus for retrieval to augment the text output generated by an LLM. This is just the beginning. One of the ways that we can extend RAG, and extend AI, is through multilingual use cases. Typical RAG is done in English using embedding models that are trained in English. In this talk, we’ll explore how RAG could work in languages other than English. We’ll explore French, Chinese, and Polish.

Corporate and higher education. Two industries that, in the past, have had a clear divide with very little crossover. The difference in goals, learning styles and objectives paved the way for differing learning technologies platforms to evolve. Now, those stark lines are blurring as both sides are discovering they have content that’s relevant to the other. Join Tammy Rutherford as she walks through the pros and cons of corporate and higher ed collaborating. And the challenges of these different technology platforms working together for a brighter future.
