Over 65% of their Sport Makers have recorded 10 or more hours. Read on to find out some hints and tips on how they did it…

CSP Case StudyTop tips for improved deployment of Sport Makers • Rather than concentrate on getting numbers to events, instead place your focus on ensuring that Sport Makers can be deployed easily. • Maintain a list of deployment opportunities with wide ranging appeal which can be promoted at any Sport Makers event. • Ideally, take around four or five of these opportunities to every event.

CSP Case StudyTop tips for improved deployment of Sport Makers • Think about whether you can use external products such as the Community Games, Race for Life, etc. as deployment opportunities. • Consider working with sports organisations to combine your event with theirs. For example, Sport Makers can be attached to run leaders or rounders activator courses. Attendees at these events are likely to be already committed to making sport happen.

  6. 6. CSP Case StudyTop tips for improved deployment of Sport Makers • If working with a partner organisation on an event, consider the following: • What sort of organisation are you working with? What are their aims and objectives? Think about how Sport Makers can help your partner achieve them and provide relevant deployment opportunities to help them do so. • Does your partner have access to funding which can be used to provide deployment opportunities for Sport Makers? • Can your partner organise and promote deployment opportunities? For example, a college might organise a sports day or a workplace might organise a lunchtime walk.

CSP Case StudyTop tips for improved deployment of Sport Makers • Once you have decided which deployment opportunities are relevant to your partner organisation, draw up an outline of the entire Sport Makers process – from sign-up to deployment. Present your outline to your partner at your first meeting, so they understand what outcomes will take place as a result of taking part in the programme. • Identify someone from your partner organisation to act as a Sport Maker lead for the event. Try and find someone who is enthusiastic about the programme and willing to take on responsibilities such as recruiting Sport Makers and encouraging them to record hours.

CSP Case StudyTop tips for improved deployment of Sport Makers • If working with a partner on multiple Sport Maker events, use the same facilitator in order to reinforce the aims and objectives of this tailored programme. • Agree a follow-up plan with your partner organisation. This might be a follow-up meeting or an event such as an awards night. Events can be a chance for Sport Makers to share their stories and can help others move into deployment and record hours. Think about whether your partner is willing to fund or part-fund an event of this kind.

CSP Case StudyTop tips for improved deployment of Sport Makers Below is a list of sample opportunities West Yorkshire Sport take to events and the number of Sport Makers they have deployed using them: • 30 – NHS festival of sport • 70 – Intra-mural Sport Makers at university (supported recruitment of intra-mural captains at local universities) • 50-55 – University activators • 10 – Physical activity champions (buddy system encouraging obese people to get fit) • 10 – Wakefield Council activators • 50 – Run leaders • 10 – Intra-mural halls activators • 30 – Over 50s group (encouraging family members to get fit) • 15 – Walk leaders • 15 – Wakefield district housing activators • 10 – Ball Again basketball
