There is already a trend towards the removal of handset subsidies
and the offering of separate finance or lease plans for handsets.
Without contracts and SIM-locked phones, operators will be seen
as connectivity providers only and will need to stress network
quality to differentiate themselves between each other.
By selling unlocked phones in a subscriber environment void of
fixed-term contracts, it makes it easy to change carriers. It is
expected this dilution of the subscriber relationship will result in a
higher level of subscriber churn in the market, and could work to
the advantage of disruptors such as MVNO’s.
Breaking the link with MNO’s ?
… and creating opportunities for the MVNO’s

MVNO’s are having to look at their
business models:
• In the days when a “feature phone” cost $100 it did
not matter as the low cost was aligned with “Cost
Conscious” subscribers

MVNO’s are having to look at their
business models:
• But when faced with a price point of $300- $600 for a
new smartphone to be able to access data services
then low cost calling is no longer the key driver for
subscribers as before

price point is not

How to handle complaints, warranty claims, shipping
costs and as well as customer services and logistics?
OK, but the problems are:

• A “take back” programme that converts old
phones into to air time calling credit to
leverage the margin between wholesale and
retail tariffs;
• A stand alone sale of a Refurbished
iPhone Handset;
• A financed sale of a Refurbished
iPhone Handset.

A used phone is sold “as is”. It has
not been tested or fixed, and it
comes with no guarantee.
A refurbished phone is different in
that it has been tested, repaired as
necessary, and it has been cleaned.
The EcoRenew definition of
refurbished is returning a used
Iphone to an “as new” condition.

So not just “refurbished”…
The EcoRenew policy is not just refurbishment but is
more correctly called Remanufacturing.
This is the rebuilding of a product to specifications of
the original manufactured product using only OEM
parts.
It is this process that enables us to offer a no quibble
12 month warranty on every device leaving our
production facilities.
…but “as new”
