The pickup man pickup the tiffin from home
at fixed time.
The picked tiffin is moved to a fixed place
next to the railway station . At this point his
job is over.

luggage compartment.
Two or four person travel along with the
tiffin boxes .
Collect the lunch boxes at the terminal and
deliver to the office;
Lastly, same exercised is reversed in the
evening to collected the empty boxes.

• Follows flat structure with only three layers for
the better communication, the first layer is top
management,second layer is governing
bodies and the third layer is dabbawalas
themselves
• Instead of following top down approach they
follow the bottom up approach.

Dabbawalas
Even though customers are growing, they have color
coding system, which ensures that every Tiffin goes to
correct person.
A collecting dabbawala‟s, usually on bicycle collects
dabbas either from workers home or from the dabba
makers.
Many of the carriers are illiterate, the dabbas have some
sort of distinguishing marks on them such as a color or a
group of symbols.
They have distributed their leaflets with Microsoft laptops
in Mumbai, offering mini discount offer for food delivery.
Although no of transactions is large ,each persons
handles a limited no of transactions at a time.
12. The grouped dabbas are put into the
coaches of the train with markings to
identify the destinations of the boxes.
At each station, boxes are handed
over to a local dabbawala‟s who
delivers them.
The empty boxes after lunch are again
collected and sent back to the
respective houses.
