College when Senda Berenson, a physical
education teacher, modified Naismith rules to
suit the needs of women.
Players

teams were made up of 9 players each. Over
time, this number was reduced first to 7, then

positions to place the players:
Point guard
• Also called "playmaker" (creator of the game, literally).
Normally the team's shortest player. On offense the ball
goes to the opposite field and directs the offensive play of
his team, sending the game system. Desirable
characteristics are a good ball handling, vision, ability to
give good passes, good speed and an accurate outside shot.
In the bases are appreciated assists as points scored, but a
good player should get both. In defense have to hinder the
rise of the ball from hand basis, cover the passing lanes and
watch for collecting the long rebounds. Typically these
players are not of a tall, because what really matters is the
capacity for organization and direction of play. Known as
one in the terminology used by coaches.
Shooting guard
• Player usually lower, fast and agile than the
rest, except sometimes the base. Points
should provide the team with a good shot
including the three-point shot, good ball skills
and an ability to get to the basket. Known as 2
in the terminology used by coaches.
Small forward
• It is usually a height midway between the
inner and outer players. His game is balanced
between strength and shooting. It is an
important post, for his ability to combine high
speed. On offense must be a good three-point
shooter and knowledge to complete an entry
under the top hand, are basic pieces to launch
the counterattack and often ends most of
them. Known as 3 in the terminology used by
coaches
Power forward
• Role is more physical than the eaves, often
with a game very similar to the pivot. Keeps
most of the points in the low post, although
some can become very effective in shooters.
They support the pivot to prevent the
opposing team's inside game, and close the
rebound. Known as 4 in the terminology used
by coaches
Center
• They are the tallest players of the team, and
strong muscularly. Normally, the pivot must use
his height and power play near the rim. A pivot
that conjuncts force agility is a fundamental piece
for your team. Are the players most surprising
novel fans for their great height. In Europe the
pivot medium has evolved and is able to open
outwards to shoot. In defense seek to collect the
rebound short, preventing the opposing team's
inside game and plug inputs perimeter players.
Known as 5 in the terminology used by coaches.
Arbitration
• A party must be conducted by three arbitrators, one
principal and two assistants. They will be assisted from the
table of scorers, timekeepers and technical commissioner.
The referee and his assistants lead the game according to
the rules and official interpretations. The referee will
decide in any situation of conflict between assistant
referees, scorers table, questions of validity in the baskets,
shall approve the minutes, is responsible to verify, inspect
and approve all technical elements and can make decisions
about situations unregulated and regulated. The referees
