T
he name of Charles Barr Furniture dates back
over 100 years to the latter part of the 19th
Century. It was in 1861 that a chair maker by the
name of Charles Barr set up a furniture workshop in
the parish of Shoreditch in London, UK.
With the assistance of his three sons the furniture
business flourished but it was the influence of
Charles Barr’s youngest son Ernest that changed
the company from a chair maker to a furniture
company specialising in furniture of the period,
drawing inspiration from such furniture designers
as Robert Adam, George Hepplewhite, Thomas
Sheraton and Thomas Chippendale.
With the passing of time the company faded into
near obscurity and it was not until the late 1940’s
that the name of Charles Barr Furniture was
resurrected.
Relying mainly on outside manufacturing sources
the furniture company grew and began once again
to be successful. Two new factory sites were set
up at Sandy, Bedfordshire and Wroxham, Norfolk
with the added facilities of both sites the company
began to increase its range of traditional furniture
reproductions which was now being completely
designed and made in-house. Today the company’s
range of traditional furniture reproductions has
been significantly developed to incorporate the
decorative traditional reproductions that Charles
Barr is known and renowned for. Supplying most
of the quality, independent, traditional furniture
outlets throughout the U.K. the company also
exports its furniture reproductions all over the
world to places such as the USA, The Middle East,
Japan, Russia and Europe.
Modern times have seen a large increase in imports
of traditional furniture reproductions flooding
into the U.K. and with Great Britain’s traditional
furniture manufacturing base in decline, the
Charles Barr story continues. Training schools
have been set up at our Wroxham factory to
ensure that traditional and reproduction furniture,
cabinet making and polishing skills are not lost.
To these methods the company has added modern
technology and innovations ensuring that Charles
Barr furniture is even stronger than an original and
more tolerant of changes in heat or humidity and
no longer the exclusive preserve of the very wealthy.

As the name implies our Grandeur collection of furniture
is the epitome of quality and decoration. Made from
African mahaogany solids and blind curl veneers, this
collection of furniture includes rare and decorative olive
ash bandings flanked by inlaid black and white boxwood
lines which provide the perfect finishing touch to this
impressive collection of furniture.
All Grandeur pieces are finished in our special M4 light
non-distressed mahogany finish. For further details on

Grandeur dining table
One of our most popular dining tables that
we make to accommodate seating plans
from eight to eighteen persons, but if you
need something larger, not a problem, we
can make this table to a size of your choice.
All Grandeur dining tables will store one
loose leaf, whilst three pedestal tables will
store two leaves.
Grandeur table pedestals are fitted with
bayonet style glide castors that can be
removed if you wish to stand your table on
a timber or stone floor.

personified. The finest mahogany timbers of African
origin highlighted by careful use of exotic olive ash burr
veneers flanked by rich tulip wood stringing set against
gold highlighted acanthus leaf carvings in chair, table legs
and corner stiles provide the perfect finishing touch to
this highly decorative range of furniture all painstakingly
crafted by hand.

Traditional
All of our traditional solid mahogany dining table tops
are constructed from figured crown mahogany timbers.
At Charles Barr we are careful to make sure that each
plank of timber used in our table top construction
is from the same log, thus ensuring that many of the
problems associated with movement on solid mahogany
tables are avoided.

pleasing look of golden nutty brown decorative burr walnut, our
Corinthian collection is available in either so the choice is yours,
either way we promise that you will not be disappointed.
Exotic Burr walnut features strongly on all our Corinthian
Walnut pieces, all Corinthian walnut tops will be cross banded
with crown timbers and at our discretion will be inlaid with a
black inlaid box wood line before being polished in our special
W6 bleached antique distressed finish.
Corinthian Mahogany Dining Set
Like all of the different style dining tables we offer, Corinthian
dining tables are available in a multitude of sizes to cater for any
seating requirement. Twin pedestal tables are available with one,
two or three centre leaves offering comfortable seating from eight
up to fourteen persons but if that’s still too small we can add
centre pedestals to extend your capacity even further.

This stylish four door mahogany sideboard has a lot going for it with a central serving slide located above the double width
single central drawer that can be accessed by the single lions head handle or by subtle finger grips on the underside of the
