 A graduate of New York Medical College, Dr. Peter Killcommons has spent
the past 25 years serving as the CEO of Medweb, a leading telemedicine
platform. To stay at the forefront of industry trends, Peter Killcommons
maintains membership in the American Telemedicine Association (ATA).
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recently held a White House
demonstration of the benefits of telemedicine. During the program, the VA
called for reforms in laws regarding state-to-state licensure requirements,
which can be problematic for doctors who are based in one state but provide
telemedicine services to patients in another state.
The ATA’s chief policy officer, Gary Capistrant, thanked the VA for showing
the benefits of telemedicine and called upon the president to pass an
executive order to do away with the outdated state-by-state model of
licensing in federal healthcare facilities so that doctors can more easily
implement wide-reaching telemedicine programs across the nation.
