This document summarizes a study comparing a traditional electrically heated platen to an Isoplaten for composites manufacturing. Thermographic analysis found that when a heater failed in each platen, the Isoplaten maintained a more uniform temperature across its surface, with a variance of +/-5 degrees Fahrenheit, while the traditional platen varied by +/- 30 degrees. The Isoplaten employs a matrix of two-phase heat exchangers that sense and adjust temperatures to achieve thermal equilibrium and uniformity for benefits such as lower maintenance and more consistent production.
