governments, groups and organizations to raise
awareness of an issue, commemorate a group
or event, or celebrate something.
Some of the international days are observed by
the United Nations.
World Braille Day

World Braille Day is annually celebrated on January 4, the birthday of Braille inventor,
Louis Braille. The day recognizes the contributions of Louis Braille in helping blind and
visually impaired people to read and write.
International Day of Commemoration in
Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust

On January 27 each year, the United Nations (UN) remembers the Holocaust that affected
many people of Jewish origin during World War II. It also commemorates when the Soviet
troops liberated the Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland on
January 27, 1945.

The purpose of Data Privacy Day is to raise awareness and promote privacy and data
protection best practices. Data Privacy Day promotes events and activities that stimulate
the development of technology tools that promote individual control over personally

World Wetlands Day

World Wetland Day marks the date of the signing of the Convention on Wetlands, called
the Ramsar Convention, on 2 February 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of
the Caspian Sea. The Ramsar Secretariat provides materials so that government agencies,
non-governmental organizations, conservation organizations, and groups of citizens can
help raise public awareness about the importance and value of wetlands.

Rare Disease Day is an observance held on the last day of February to raise awareness for rare
diseases and improve access to treatment and medical representation for individuals with rare
diseases and their families. It was established in 2008 because, according to the European
Organization for Rare Diseases (EURORDIS), treatment for many rare diseases is insufficient, as are the
social networks to support individuals with rare diseases and their families.

kidneys and reducing the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health
problems worldwide. World Kidney Day is observed annually on the 2nd Thursday in
March. This day was intended to raise awareness about afflictions of the kidney; although
many are treatable, they are a secondary medical concern of the greater population.

Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi Day is
observed on March 14 (3/14 in the month/day date format) since
3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of π.
World Consumer Rights Day

15 March is World Consumer Rights Day, an annual occasion for celebration and solidarity
within the international consumer movement. It marks the date in 1962 President
John F Kennedy first outlined the definition of Consumer Rights. WCRD is an opportunity
to promote the basic rights of all consumers, for demanding that those rights are
respected and protected, and for protesting the market abuses and social injustices
which undermine them.
World Sparrow Day

World Sparrow Day is a day designated to raise awareness of the house sparrow and other
common birds to urban environments, and of threats to their populations, observed on 20
March. It is an international initiative by the Nature Forever Society of India in collaboration
with the Eco-Sys Action Foundation (France) and numerous other national and
international organisations across the world. It aims to spread the awareness on the need
of conserving common biodiversity or species of lower conservation status.

United Nations adviser Jayme Illien, who conceptualized the idea for a U.N. Resolution that would
recognize the pursuit of happiness as a human right and a "fundamental human goal."
International Day for the Elimination of
Racial Discrimination

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on 21 March.
On that day, in 1960, police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration in
Sharpeville, South Africa, against the apartheid pass laws. Proclaiming the day in 1966, the United
Nations General Assembly called on the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate
all forms of racial discrimination. This day commemorates the lives that have been lost to fight for
democracy and equal human rights in South Africa during the Apartheid regime.

The International Day of Forests, the 21st day of March, was established by resolution of the United
Nations General Assembly on November 28, 2012. Each year, various events celebrate and raise
awareness of the importance of all types of forests, and trees outside forests, for the benefit of

national, and international activities involving forests and trees, such as tree planting campaigns,
on International Day of Forests.
World Down Syndrome Day

World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is observed on March 21. On this day, people with Down
syndrome and those who live and work with them throughout the world organize and participate in
activities and events to raise public awareness and create a single global voice for advocating for the
rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Down syndrome. Down syndrome is a naturally
occurring chromosomal arrangement that has always been a part of the human condition, being
universally present across racial, gender or socio-economic lines. Down syndrome usually causes
varying degrees of intellectual and physical disability and associated medical issues.
World Water Day

World Water Day is an annual event celebrated on March 22. The day focuses attention on the
importance of freshwater and advocates for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
The occasion of World Water Day is also used to highlight required improvements for access to WASH
(water, sanitation, hygiene) facilities in developing countries.

encouraging Member States of the United Nations to take measures to raise awareness

official health-specific UN Days. The day itself brings individual autism organizations
together all around the world to aid in things like research, diagnoses, treatment, and
overall awareness for those with the disorder and looking for help.

under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO). The World Health Day is
held to mark WHO's founding, and is seen as an opportunity by the organization to draw
worldwide attention to a subject of major importance to global health each year. The WHO
organizes international, regional and local events on the Day related to a particular theme.
World Health Day is one of eight official global public health campaigns marked by WHO.
International Street Children's Day

The International Day for Street Children takes place on April 12th. The day
provides a platform for the millions of street children around the world to
speak out so that their rights cannot be ignored.
World Hemophilia Day

World Hemophilia Day is an international observance held annually on April 17 by the
World Federation of Hemophilia. It is an awareness day for hemophilia and other bleeding
disorders, which also serves to raise funds and attract volunteers for the WFH. It was
started in 1989; April 17 was chosen in honor of Frank Schnabel's birthday. WFH educates
hemophiliacs and lobbies for improved medical treatment.
Earth Day

reading, publishing and copyright.
World Malaria Day

World Malaria Day (WMD) is an international observance commemorated every year on 25
April and recognizes global efforts to control malaria. WMD is one of eight official global
public health campaigns currently marked by the World Health Organization (WHO).
World Intellectual Property Day

World Intellectual Property Day is observed annually on 26 April. The event was
established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000 to "raise
awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life" and
"to celebrate creativity, and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the
development of societies across the globe”.

  • 17. International Day of Happiness March 20 Commemorative Days The International Day of Happiness (known as Happiness Day) is celebrated throughout the world on the 20th of March. The International Day of Happiness Resolution was the result of the effort of United Nations adviser Jayme Illien, who conceptualized the idea for a U.N. Resolution that would recognize the pursuit of happiness as a human right and a "fundamental human goal."
  • 18. International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination March 21 Commemorative Days The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on 21 March. On that day, in 1960, police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration in Sharpeville, South Africa, against the apartheid pass laws. Proclaiming the day in 1966, the United Nations General Assembly called on the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination. This day commemorates the lives that have been lost to fight for democracy and equal human rights in South Africa during the Apartheid regime.

International Day of Forests March 21 Commemorative Days The International Day of Forests, the 21st day of March, was established by resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on November 28, 2012. Each year, various events celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests, and trees outside forests, for the benefit of current and future generations. Countries are encouraged to undertake efforts to organize local, national, and international activities involving forests and trees, such as tree planting campaigns, on International Day of Forests.
  • 20. World Down Syndrome Day March 21 Commemorative Days World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is observed on March 21. On this day, people with Down syndrome and those who live and work with them throughout the world organize and participate in activities and events to raise public awareness and create a single global voice for advocating for the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Down syndrome. Down syndrome is a naturally occurring chromosomal arrangement that has always been a part of the human condition, being universally present across racial, gender or socio-economic lines. Down syndrome usually causes varying degrees of intellectual and physical disability and associated medical issues.

The day focuses attention on the importance of freshwater and advocates for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. The occasion of World Water Day is also used to highlight required improvements for access to WASH (water, sanitation, hygiene) facilities in developing countries.

World Autism Awareness Day April 2 Commemorative Days World Autism Awareness Day is a nationally observed day on the 2nd of April every year, encouraging Member States of the United Nations to take measures to raise awareness about children with autism throughout the world. World Autism Day is also one of only four official health-specific UN Days. The day itself brings individual autism organizations together all around the world to aid in things like research, diagnoses, treatment, and overall awareness for those with the disorder and looking for help.

World Health Day April 7 Commemorative Days The World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated every year on 7 April, under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO). The World Health Day is held to mark WHO's founding, and is seen as an opportunity by the organization to draw worldwide attention to a subject of major importance to global health each year. The WHO organizes international, regional and local events on the Day related to a particular theme. World Health Day is one of eight official global public health campaigns marked by WHO.
  • 25. International Street Children's Day April 12 Commemorative Days The International Day for Street Children takes place on April 12th. The day provides a platform for the millions of street children around the world to speak out so that their rights cannot be ignored.
  • 26. World Hemophilia Day April 17 Commemorative Days World Hemophilia Day is an international observance held annually on April 17 by the World Federation of Hemophilia. It is an awareness day for hemophilia and other bleeding disorders, which also serves to raise funds and attract volunteers for the WFH. It was started in 1989; April 17 was chosen in honor of Frank Schnabel's birthday. WFH educates hemophiliacs and lobbies for improved medical treatment.

WMD is one of eight official global public health campaigns currently marked by the World Health Organization (WHO).
  • 30. World Intellectual Property Day April 26 Commemorative Days World Intellectual Property Day is observed annually on 26 April. The event was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000 to "raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life" and "to celebrate creativity, and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of societies across the globe”.
