1. Why growing your email list is the mack daddy of marketing?
Permission marketing
Everyone has email and they check it daily
Social media channels, like Facebook are making it hard to reach your target
audience without paying to play
The three goals of your mailing list
educate or entertain your reader
establish expertise
sell products
Respect every person on your list – even if your list is small, that’s one person
who has decided to trust you enough to give you their email address. Permission
has to be earned, don’t take it for granted that anyone has given you their email
address.
How to get students to sign up:
1. Ask students to sign up at your brick and mortar studio, especially when
they are new students. Make sure to include a checkmark on your signup
sheets that notifies your student that you intend to add them to your
mailing list
2. Whenever you teach workshops at a different studio or guest teach a
class, make sure to capture email addresses of the new students you’re
exposed to
3. Write guest posts for yoga + wellness blogs like MindBodyGreen,
Teachasana, Elephant Journal and Yoganonymous. This can expose you to
thousands of new, virtual students. One of my most popular Elephant
Journal has garnered more that 80,000 unique views. That’s a lot of free
publicity for my business and work. Because of this one article, I was able
to add hundreds of new subscribers to my mailing list and new likes on
my Facebook page, as well.
In Namaste MBA we’ll go deeply into how to pitch yourself as a guest
writer for popular yoga websites to grow your network of students.
4. Add a mailing list opt-in box to your website. In a few minutes I’ll be
showing you exactly how to add a beautiful and sophisticated opt-in box
to your website using a Wordpress plugin.
5. Include a link to your mailing list sign up URL in your email signature
2. 6. Also, don’t forget to reach out on social media networks like your
Facebook page or Twitter feed and ask your social fans to join your
network.

Tips to communicate with your audience
Write your mailing list emails as if you were writing to one person
80/20 selling, respect your list by adding value to their lives (some ways
to add value)
Include only one call to action (CTA) per email blast
How do I know what my list wants to know about?
Ask them! Don’t be afraid to ask questions with every email blast that you
send out.
How long should my emails be?
Try to keep each email blast in between 250-500 words. Your readers are busy
and will appreciate hearing from you more if they can expect to have short and
sweet emails from you. If you’re sharing a longer blog post or article, you can
email an excerpt of the blog post and then link your readers directly to your blog
or article to read the full text.
How do I know what’s working?
Test, test and test some more. One of the key elements of marketing is testing
your various campaigns to make sure that they’re working. In your mailing list
subscriber, you’ll have access to metrics like “open-rate” “click-rate” that will
3. give you valuable information about each email campaign. Try sending your
emails on different days and at different times of the day to see whether you get
a higher open rate on one versus the other.
