approach
Teacher centered approach -
• Knowledge is transmitted from professor to students.
• Students passively receive information.
• Professor’s role is to be primary information giver and primary
evaluator.
• Desired learning is assessed indirectly through the use of objectively
scored tests.
• Emphasis is on right answers.
• Culture is competitive and individualistic.
Teacher talk ( lecturing ) -
• Teacher is primary communicator of knowledge.
• Teacher directly manages the pace and sequence of instruction.
• Lecturing to students is a formal mode of approach & talking to them
is informal.
• Teacher can teach students, but that doesn’t ensure student have
learned the material.

Limitation in teacher centered -
• Here there is no scope for learners to construct knowledge.
• Learners need’s, interests and level of understanding are not taken
into consideration.
• The freedom of learner are restricted.
• Peer group discussion are neglected.
• Children derive pleasure out of activity but there is no scope for such
activities.
• It encourages memorization instead of understanding.
• There is no opportunity for the learners for self-expression.
There are no
choices
Learner centered approach
Learner centered approach -
• Objective of this approach is to lead the learner to a great autonomy
of learning.
• It is about the involvement of the learner in the process of learning.
• They need to be unzipped to recognize their ability that will help
them to survive in the society.
• A famous proverb – tell me, and I will forget
show me, and I will remember
involve me, I will learn
Teacher’s work in LCA -
Teacher is the key with whom we
can unlock a student.
Teacher’s proficiency in LCA -
• Teacher must have good hold on languages. He should be well known
about the regional languages.
• Teacher must have knowledge about the time management skill.
• Teacher must have patience, because this approach let the learner
learn by themselves, so, there are going to be so many questions that
will be asked by the learners.
• He must have a modular and attractive voice.
• The outlook of a teacher should be enormous.
Approach of a Teacher -
• If there are 30 students inside the classroom then there must be
more than 30 ways to deal with them.
• Instead of telling them the essence let them figure it out by them
selves.
• To get the job done teacher must adopt various kind of approaches.
Things that happen in LCA -
• Fast, slow & average students are getting identified.
• There is no time limit for any student to complete a task.
• Learning aids are always there as a supplementary.
• They are encouraged to work cooperatively.
• They feel respected and their opinion are valued.
• They get individualised attention.
• Unity & participative nature get developed through play period.
• Teaching & assessing are intertwined. Assessment is used to promote
and diagnose learning.
The result of learner centered approach -
• Learners are more responsible with their skills.
• The fear factor inside a learner gets vanished completely.
• They are more confident than ever before to sit in an examination.
• They are more social.
• We can see the eagerness inside the learner during the learning
process.
• Learners learn to cooperate each other and never afraid to speak in a
group.

Subject centered approach
Subject centered approach -
• Subject centered is a rigid approach, based on specific courses, which
mandates specific amounts of material to be covered over special
periods of time regardless of student abilities or interests.
• Here both teacher and student can concentrate on the subject matter
• Different concept are arrange hierarchically.
Advantages -
• Subjects are arranged in logical sequence.
• It helps in storing of student’s knowledge more economically.
• It is easy to adopt such approach.
• In this type of arrangement the pressure of work is comparatively less
on the part of the teacher.
Limitations -
• Here knowledge is divided into water tight compartment.
• The interest and needs of learners are not taken into consideration.
• It is a mechanical process and encourages memorization.
• Learners are treated as passive listeners.
• It neglects the psychological principle.
• There is no scope for teacher to bring outside school experience to
the class room.
• Here more stress is given on subject not on learner.
Learning centered approach
Learning centred approach -
• Learning centred education focuses on learning process.
• Learning centred education places the student at the centre of
education.
• Although, it’s primary concern is on the learning of the student, all
those involved in this education of students such as teachers are also
co-learner with the students in the learning centred education.
• It is basically learner centred, but includes teachers in the process of
learning in the classroom situation.
• Research has shown that a learning centred education help students
acquire competency in skill areas and creates life long learners.
• It begins with educational understanding the educational contexts
from which a student comes.
• It continues with the teacher evaluating the student’s progress
towards learning objectives.
• By helping the students to acquire the basic skills to learn, it ultimately
provides a basis for learning throughout life.
Some examples of learning centred
educational practices -
• Collaborative group learning, both inside and outside the class room.
• Individual student inquiry and discovery.
• Inquiry and discovery by students and teachers together.
• Problem based inquiry learning.
• Synchronous interactive distance learning.
• Hands-on, experiential learning activities.
• On-site field experiences.
• Self-paced performance on contextual task.
Aspects Learning centered
Nature of knowledge Knowledge is constructed by the
learner
Roles of teacher and learner Learner acts and teacher facilitating
learning
Dominant teacher function Facilitating learning and supporting
learning
situation Natural and contextual to learning
Conclusion -
There are various kinds of approaches those have been adopted in
different decades by numbers of intellectual mind. It is always the situation
which demands its own approach. In ancient era there are few people
getting chances to learn, with these few students there must be only one
or two gurus there to teach them, so, the teaching learning process had to
be teacher centred. In this era where everybody has excess to information
of all kind then they can create their own knowledge from it. They don’t
need any others help, so, this is the learner centred approach. To make
everything in a discipline manner government have made a way to run the
educational process which is subject centred. But where learner has the
freedom to create their own knowledge and teachers are welcomed to
guide the student, so that he or she can easily get the result with all due
respect to his or her own created knowledge and this is known as learning
centred approach.
Thank
you
