2. Spirit Definition.
Any alcoholic beverage containing significant
amount of ethyl alcohol (ethanol) obtained by the
distillation of the fermented alcoholic beverage is
termed as spirit.
A spirit which is obtained is a potable alcoholic
beverage close to hundred percent purity (pure
alcohol) to which distilled water is added to
reduce its potency. Classified based on the source
of the sugar to convert into alcohol.
40. Rum.
• Distilled beverage made from sugarcane
• Usually aged in oak and other barrels
• Light rums are commonly used in cocktails
• golden and dark rums are for direct consumption
• Some of the many other names for rum are Nelson's Blood, Kill-Devil, Demon
Water, Pirate's Drink, Navy Neaters, and Barbados water.
