2. INTRODUCTION
 A comprehensive act called The Environment
Protection Act was passed in 1986 with the sole
motive of protecting the environment around us.
 This Act provides for the protection and
improvement of environment and for matters
connected there with.
 The Environment Protection Act, 1986, came into
force from 19th November, 1986, published in
Gazette of India on 12th November, 1986.

3.  According to R.K.PACHORT, “Environment may be
defined as the sum total of all conditions and influences
that affect the development and life of organisms.

 26 sections and 4 chapters
 Extend of the Act.
 Extended to whole of India

4. SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES OF THE ACT
 To protect and improve environmental qualities.
 To establish an authority to study , plan and
implement long term requirements of
environmental safety.
 To give directions and to coordinate system of
adequate response to emergency situations
threatening the environment.

5.  To create an authority with the purpose of environmental
protection , regulation of discharge of pollutants and
handling of harmful substances.
 To coordinate the activities of various regulating
agencies.
 To cover all the problems relating to environment
comprehensively.
