3. Duties
• Operation of the computers and the network,
• Supervision of lab equipment and facilities,
• Keeping records of equipment and lab supplies,
• Maintaining the security of the lab.
• Assist users in the lab by demonstrating the proper use of the equipment
and how to use the hardware and software to finish assignments.
• If any system or technical problems arise, the computer lab
technician may be called to provide assistance such as
– clearing paper jams in printers and copiers,
– refilling ink toners and supplying paper.

4. Duties
• They are often responsible for the cleanliness of the lab to ensure safety
and proper working conditions for the lab users and proper
maintenance of the computers.
• They also prepare the computer lab schedule, provide backup of
software and perform equipment repairs or arrange for repairs
to be completed.
• Computer lab technicians may be responsible for the budget of the lab
such as purchasing supplies and researching and purchasing
replacement equipment.

• Ability to instruct students, lab technician assistants and faculty.
• How to operate and maintain all related computer equipment in the
lab such as

equipment to ensure that every component of the lab is working
properly.

• Students are not

supervised by a staff member.
• Never share your
password, even with your
best friend.

11. Rules for Students
• No gum, food or drinks in the lab, electronic equipment doesn’t like to
get wet or sticky. Accidents do happen even to the careful students. Mobile or
any electromagnetic devices are harmful as their frequency
interrupts the hardware singling.
• Never touch another student’s computer.

12. Rules for Students
• Do not use the mouse or keyboard as a
toy. This means do not randomly click on the mouse or
hit the keys on the keyboard without a purpose.
Always use print preview before you
print. Make sure that your heading is on all documents, pick
up your work at the printer and turn in to the hand-in-
box. Plan your time. All students can not print at the same
time. Ask before you print.
• Do not change computer preference
settings or endeavor to “hack” into unauthorized
areas.

13. Rules for Students
• Only use the Internet as instructed. You may not use school
computers to write or receive e-mail messages, use chat rooms, update or respond
to non-school related blogs or surf the Internet. Do not click on links that seem
suspicious or are offers of “free” anything.
