Autodesk®Revit® Architecture 2012 delivers several new and user-requested features that help improve productivity and enhance collaboration by focusing on three key areas:Building Information Modeling (BIM) Workflow: Revit Architecture extends the BIM workflow by introducing construction modeling, which supports virtual construction modeling workflows with specific focus on 4D sequencing. Conceptual energy analysis, as part of integrated analysis workflow, helps providearchitects with an understanding of building performance metrics early in the conceptual stage. Revit Architecture also introduces the capability of linking point cloud data to help provide more options for renovation and retrofit projects; as well as improving interoperability with DWG exports and model linking.Collaboration & Performance: RevitArchitecture continues to help increase efficiency by making performance improvements. Revit Server helps project teams in different locations to more easily collaborate on shared Revit Architecture models across a wide-area network (WAN) with the speed of a local-area network (LAN). Revit Architecture is now compatible with Citrix® XenApp®6, giving you more flexibility and options for working from remote locations using a single server. We will also look at enhancements being made within the workshare environment.Enhance Productivity: A number of improvements have been made to the FamilyEditor and Conceptual Design tools, expanding existing powerful capabilities. Other improvements include visualization, material libraries, and additional enhancements to provide a smoother workflow.
New construction modeling tools help you gain better construction insight by coordinating the design model and construction model within one single file.A new Create Parts/Divide Model tool provides a method for dividing RevitArchitecture geometry into smaller parts for the purpose of creating more accurate schedules, quantity takeoffs, visualizations, and exports It provides visibility controls and helps to maintain a persistent design intent model.Assemblies help support the creation of shop drawings for pre-fabricated building assemblies such as precast walls, columns, beams and floors. An assembly can be selected, scheduled, isolated, tagged, and tracked in the project. Revit ArchitecturePoint Cloud tools connect laser scans directly into the Building Information Modeling process in a more efficient way. Capturing the existing conditions of a building or interior accurately can accelerate work on Renovation and Retrofit projects. Point Clouds provide many standard Reload/Unload/Remove functionality similar to other kinds of links. At the same time, the Point Cloud behaves like a model object within Revit Architecture. Geometry creation or modification tools in Revit Architecture are now capable of snapping to implicit planar surfaces that are dynamically detected in the point cloud.Improvements to the DWG export interface provides a smoother workflow, taking into account new options for export. It provides a better visual and data fidelity of exported 2D views to DWG including more control over exporting layers, dimensions, line types, line patterns, and fonts to improve the clarity of construction drawings in AutoCAD®software without loss of visual fidelity.Model linking continues to improve by providing more flexibility in working within projects, enabling you to tag a variety of elements within linked files. With the Revit Architecture 2012 release, Revit Architecture helps to increase efficiency using worksharing. The new worksharing features help you to communicate and visualize the status of the worksharing project.Workset visibility can now be managed via view templates. This new functionality is available in the standard View Templates dialog. There are four new display modes that enable users to visualize different status of ownership, making it easier to communicate with colleagues:The ownership status of elementsThe specific owners of elementsElements that are out of date with the central model or have been deleted in the central modelWhich elements are assigned to particular worksetsDisableWorksharing command is now available, allowing you to disable worksharing completely in the project and save it as a non-worksharing project.Revit Architecture now provides balloon notifications when editing requests are placed, granted and denied. The notifications have buttons to let you show the elements involved, providing a faster and more efficient way for you to communicate with your colleagues.Bottom Line: Worksharing enhancements help you better understand and collaborate on shared models across the project team. Performance improvements in RevitArchitecture 2012 help deliver a smoother experience when working on Revit projects of any size. Regenerations are more granular to avoid updating elements unaffected by editing changes, which helps reduce time significantly. You also can now purge unused Import Categories and Object Styles.Loading elements into memory is now multithreaded, thereby helping to reduce view open times when elements are displayed for the first time in the session.Multithreading can be enabled for computation in perspective 3D views.Parallel silhouette computation is a new performance feature that calculates in parallel the exterior outline of multiple objects seen from a particular viewpoint based on the available threads.Bottom Line: Performance improvements help deliver a smoother experience when working on Revit projects of any size. Revit Server is the foundation for server-based worksharing for Revit projects. A workshared project is a Revit building model of any size and complexity that multiple team members of any geographical location can access and modify at the same time. Revit Server uses a central server and multiple local servers for optimal project collaboration across a wide area network (WAN). You can better maintain a more seamlessly integrated collection of Revit central models on a single central server that can be accessed from local servers.Revit Server was released in our Revit Architecture 2011 Subscription Advantage Pack, and now it’s available within Revit Architecture 2012.Project Bluestreak* more securely connects to the Bluestreak cloud with automated notifications when using worksharing, helping you to more quickly resolve open issues and make informed decisions in any location.Revit Architecture is now compatible with Citrix® XenApp®6**. Family Editor and Conceptual Design tools have seen several enhancements to extend their capabilities.Solid-solid cut and void cuts are now available on a family instance of any category in the project environment. Both of these modeling enhancements help to increase the capability of defining zones for Conceptual Energy Analysis.You can now perform round function in formulas, and values can be now rounded up or down. You can also allow creation of parameters to drive component types in families. Those parameters can be driven by conditional formulas and applied to divided surfaces.Adaptive components can be now placed in the project environment. When placed in the project, adaptive components behave similarly to other families from the generic model template, as well as behaving similarly when placed in conceptual massing families.Bottom Line: Integrating conceptual design workflow and family editor capabilities into the project environment helps to increase flexibility in modeling toprovide a smoother design workflow
Visualization enhancements present you with more flexible visual style combinations, helping to add value to visualization techniques and improve the interactive experience.The Graphics Display Options dialog has been enhanced to a more componentized format that closely resembles the Rendering dialog’s structure.You can now Save a View Template directly from the dialog as well.Some of the new and enhanced view styles are:Realistic with Edges modeAmbient Occlusion (Ambient Lighting) in Hidden Line and Consistent Colors modeShadows are now available in Consistent Colors mode.Ghosted Surfaces, which displays all surfaces with a 30% transparency, is now available in all view styles. Highlight and selection colors have been updated to provide a better visual when selecting elements. Transparency and solid fill have been enabled on selection. New grip graphics and new temporary dimension graphics have been enabled as well.You can now create, share, and manage material properties across many projects. Data sharing between Revit Architecture and other applications creates better workflow compatibility.An enhanced Paint tool includes a visual preview of the materials to be applied by the Paint tool and a new Remove paint tool. Additionally, it is now possible to differentiate scheduled materials between those applied to elements and those applied to painted surfaces.You have the ability to manage your material property sets by using Material Properties Library dialog. You can modify a property set, load a property set from a library, or delete all unused property sets and materials from a project.You can now browse for a materials library that has been previously created. It extends your rendering capabilities because you can share different property sets from different rendering software. You can also remove a library that you no longer need to help keep your project organized.Bottom Line: With moregraphic presentation capabilities, Revit Architecture helps better communicate design intent. Several refinements and new features can enhance the everyday workflow by adding new capabilities, making simple tasks easier to accomplish. You can now lock a 3D view and tag elements in the view. You can better communicate your design in 3D views by tagging and annotating within the view. The Type selector has been improved to make access easier. You can now change the type using the type selector while in sketch mode.Also, you can add the type selector to the Modify tab by right-clicking on the Type Selector in the Properties Palette and selecting Add to Ribbon Modify Tab. The Keyboard Shortcuts dialog provides a quicker and easier way to assign shortcuts to all of your tools, including single key entry will be first in priority, warning on duplicate shortcut creation, and export all commands not just those with assignments. Starting view allows you to dictate which view Revit Architecture should open by default when the file is loaded.Bottom Line: Enhancements to existing and new features enable a smoother workflow, making simple tasks easier to accomplish.
3Dconnexion devices are supported in Revit Architecture for 2D and 3D view navigation, enabling you to use them with a traditional mouse simultaneously without interrupting the workflow.You can now save all the families in the current project to individual Revit family files with a single command. You can also import and/or export the Type Parameters from a loaded family to a TXT file. This provides you an easy way to better organize your family library.Enhancements have been made to the Dimension tool. You now can customize dimension equality text. The “EQ” text can be overridden to achieve a customized result for individual dimension segments. New dimension leader and text is also available that allows for more customization.Autodesk released the Autodesk Wiki Help site, which contains a whole host of help topics, videos, and tips.
