2. Julius Caesar first went to Britain in August 55 BC as part of
his Gallic wars, but he withdrew to the continent because of
the horrible weather. He took with him two Romans legions.
In 54 B.C, Caesar came to Britain again landing at Walmer
near Deal in Kent. This time he brought with him no fewer
than five legions but he went back to Gaul (Gallia) to put down
a rebellion.
The actual Roman Invasion of Britain took place about a
century later, when Claudius invaded the island in 43AD.

3. In the first invasion, they won several battles
against the Celtic tribes (Britons) in south-east
England but they returned to France.
In the second invasion, the Romans crossed
the River Thames. After more fighting, the
British tribes promised to pay tribute to Rome
and were then left in peace for nearly a
century.

4. The Celts were one the first people to ever live in
Britain, being the most powerful people in central
and northern Europe from around 750 BC to 12 BC.

“the Britons”, because of his place of residence.

led an uprising against

She died in the 61 A.C.
