7. About the content
Within two-and-a-half years Martin Gerster and his team of pro-
fessionals created an innovative and world first work of reference.
On 4 DVDs you will be presented 345 breeds of dogs in image
and sound.
It’s an easy-to-use encyclopaedia for each and every dog lover,
future dogowner and everyone else, who is interested in any way
in man’s best friend.
The book, containing many informations, practical advices and a
large number of addresses, completes the compendium.
With the first click the desired group, with the second the desired
breed (e.g. German shepherd) is selected. Then you choose the
favoured country (e.g. Germany) and the detailed description is
shown on the screen.
While you watch the dog having been filmed during several exer-
cises on the training grounds, the narrator provides you with in-
formation about size, weight, coat, life expectancy and ancestry.
It is also referred to the fact for what sports or field of work the
dog is appropriate, if it is easily trained or even a breed for eve-
rybody.
It’s an amazing piece of work, spoken of the fact that each breed
was filmed with the same team.

8. An enormous project
The project manager and producer, Martin Gerster, long-time do-
gowner himself, is the CEO of PMC since the company was foun-
ded.
Earlier he led a German shepherd, nowadays Damon, a six-year-
old White Shepherd, is on his side.
Damon is an eager-to-learn, calm and sensitive stud dog with
certificates for Avalanche work III and Companion dog III.
To the producer of “RASSEHUND” it has always been a concern
to help to find people the appropriate breed.
In other words which breed, concerning its character, should not
come into consideration.
The rising of awareness of any interested person for the circum-
stances and responsibility occurring when living with a dog are
topics being dear to the producer’s heart.
It has to be pointed out over and over again on what criteria a
breed should be chosen, how it is properly cared for, what cost
you’ll have to face and, most important of all, how great a res-
ponsibility one takes when owning a dog.

9. An enormous project
Following all these considerations the idea formed to produce a
compendium of all breeds of dogs on DVD – until then only DVDs
of particular breeds where for sale.
“I put all my heart and soul into this world first project”, Martin
Gerster affirms and goes on: „Firstly I dealt with a German pu-
blisher who declined the project because it seemed to risky. So
the only possibility left was to realise the idea myself and take the
financing risk as well.“
„And now, after two-and-a-half years of organizing, production
works and many sleepless nights I’m proud that the opus finally
is thus successful on the market”
In responsibility towards the topic and the customers, who al-
ready own the compendium “Rassehund”, it has to be mentioned
that updates are issues at regular intervals, which can be reques-
ted by email.

The “RASSEHUND” compendium provides interesting back-
ground information and therefore is able to serve as decision
guidance.
Concerning this, one could compare this compendium with so-
mething similar to a travel brochure, only is our “brochure” an
honest one.
Altogether there are 427 F.C.I-acknowledged breeds, of which 32
only still exist on paper.
In this compendium we restricted to 345 breeds and covered the
most important nonetheless.
We visited dogs all over Europe, partly with our camera people,
partly with hired specialists of local TV stations.
The several breeds are as truthfully and reliably introduced and
described as possible. There are hounds for instance, which
should only be led by huntsmen.
Aanother example would be descriptions about what breeds shed
less and what should do sports necessarily.

Speaking of dogs for experienced owners, there are the Bullmas-
tiff and the Doberman who are definitely no breeds for beginners.
Whereas the Hovawart is a well known family dog is and the Toy-
Pudel enjoys frequent walks. But one has to concentrate on him
a lot, otherwise he ends up yapping.
Even crossbreeds are mentioned both in the book and the DVDs
and for dog owners themselves there are lots of tips and advice.
The 4 DVDs are supplemented by a 180-page book, printed
in 4-color, with tips of vets, suggestions for proper nutrition,
breeder’s addresses, puppy schools an any other trainings.

12. Working with dogs
There are no mean dogs
It’s most clear for Martin Gerster that there definitely are
no mean dogs, but character, nature and instinct of the
parent dogs are to be considered at all costs to lead a
pleasant life together.
For dogs it is absolutely necessary to live out their ins-
tincts as far as possible. To enable that the owners have
to work with them.
The compendium “Rassehund” presents 107 various pos-
sibilities of work and occupation, in connection with the
appropriate dogs.
In every portrait you will find a menu option, indicating
the suitable occupation, work or sports.
As authors the renowned experts Hans Reber, Ph.D, and
Peter A. Widmer, Ph.D. could be acquired.
