In the previous
meetings, we have
discussed about verbs.
What is a verb?
Verb is an action
word or state of
being
Watch and listen
carefully to understand
today’s lesson.
Today, we are going to
learn deeper about verbs.
Learning Objectives:
a.Identify the voice of the verb in
each sentence;
b. Show quickness in determining
voices of verbs;
c.Rewrite sentences changing the
voice from active to passive.
How will you be
able to achieve our
learning objectives
for today?
In order for everyone to
understand today’s lesson it
is very important to listen
carefully. Just like listening
to your parents when they
are explaining things to
you.
Identify the Subject, Verb and object
in the sentence.
1. The boy kicked the ball.
2. Jose Rizal wrote Noli Me Tangere.
3. Alexander Graham Bell invented the
telephone.
4. Phythgoras contributed Phythagorean
Theorem.
Voice of the verb
Voice is the quality of a
verb that shows whether
the subject is the doer or
the receiver of the action.
There are two voices of
verb:
1. Active voice
2. passive voice.
Active voice
is used to indicate
that the subject of
the sentence is the
doer of the action.
What are the subjects in the
sentences?
1.The boy kicked the ball.
2.Jose Rizal wrote Noli Me Tangere.
3.Alexander Graham Bell invented the
telephone.
4.Phythgoras contributed Phythagorean
Theorem.
1. The boy kicked the ball.
2. Jose Rizal wrote Noli Me Tangere.
3. Alexander Graham Bell invented the
telephone.
4. Phythgoras contributed Phythagorean
Theorem.
note the form of the
verb when the
subject is the doer
of the action.
What are the verbs
used?
Those verbs are transitive verb with
direct objects, thus when the subject of
the sentence does the action the verb has
a direct object. We can say that the verb
is in active form.
Passive voice
is created when the
subject is acted
upon, or the verb
takes an object.
What are the subjects in the
sentences?
1. The ball was kicked by the boy.
2. Noli Me Tangere was written by Jose
Rizal .
3. The telephone was invented by
Alexander Graham Bell
4. Phythagorean Theorem was
contributed by Phythgoras.
1. The ball was kicked by the boy.
2. Noli Me Tangere was written by Jose Rizal .
3. The telephone was invented by Alexander
Graham Bell
4. Phythagorean Theorem was contributed by
Phythgoras.
Observe that the subject is the receiver
instead of being the doer of the action. Note
that the form of the verb when the subject is
the receiver, not the doer of the action is
made up of was + past participle of the verb.
Thus if the subject is acted upon, the verb is
in the passive voice.
Rules for changing
Active Voice into
Passive Voice:
1. Identify the subject, the verb and the
object: SVO
2. Change the object into subject
3. Put the suitable helping verb or
auxiliary verb. In case helping verb is
given, use the same. But note that the
helping verb given agrees with the
object.
4. Change the verb into past participle of
the verb.
5. Add the preposition "by“
Identify the voice of the verb in each
sentence.
1. Raul presented an interesting report.
2. Baseball was played by Joseph.
3. Martin removed the old paint.
4. The national budget was approved by
congress.
5. She cooked the breakfast.
1. Active
2. Passive
3. Active
4. Passive
5. Active

voice of the verb.
 Group 2: Identify the subject, the verb and
the object.
 Group 3: Rewrite the sentence changing the
voice from active to passive.
