THE

  DEXTER

EXPERIMENT

by; shaylyn fetterman
Hello there, my name is Dexter! I was put
into this classroom along with many of my
brothers and sisters. We have been
  separated and watched throughout the
duration of us being able to hatch. Some of
the other fish died. Whew! I’m so glad I
didn’t! Well, I’m going to tell you about
some of the experiences I have had along
                   the way.
Day one
              Stage 18, 26 hours
I thought it was going to
be all quite and stuff the
first day, but nope. I get
   shot out of a dropper
onto a keyboard. I felt an
  adrenaline rush, it was
actually kind of fun. Even
though I won’t admit it to
        anyone else.
Day two
              Stage 23, 46 hours

Luckily I was still alive after my tumble yesterday. Today,
My heartbeat started to show up, Shaylyn was very excited
about that. My heartbeat pulsed about 52 times per minute.
Day three
        Stage 28, 74 hours
My blood was visible by now, it was a very light
pinkish orange color. I could feel myself getting
bigger and the space inside the egg was getting a
bit cramped, it was very uncomfortable.
Day four
Stage 30, 102 hours
           My heartbeat was about
             137 beats per minute
               today. Today my
           pectoral fin showed up
           and my blood is much
           more visible. I had to
           keep moving around to
            stay happy in the egg.
I’m so sick of being in
                     there.
Day five
          Stage 32, 128 hours
 My spleen and
urinary bladder
    were now
visible. Stomites
 became clearer
to see. My eyes
 were shaping a
little more than
  they were the
  previous day.
Day six
              Stage 35, 200 hours

I thrash around so much, Shaylyn and Jenna probably think that
there is something wrong with me. All of my organs are fully
formed inside of me, so I should hatch anytime.
Day seven
              Stage 36, 264 hours

                  I FINALLY HATCHED!
I can now swim freely and pleasantly in my little dish. I was so
excited to stretch out and test the waters.
Survival ;
Dexter didn’t really need to much to survive while he was in
the petri dish, we just had to make sure he had his water
                      changed everyday.

I started out with a rough start, but after the first day,
Shaylyn and Jenna took very good care of me. I’m happy to
                        still be alive.
                         -Dexter. :)
