IMPORTANT OBJECTS AND SYMBOLS <ul><li>The Shofar </li></ul><ul><li>A ram’s horn that is blown during the month of Rosh Hashanah and at the end of Yom Kippur. </li></ul><ul><li>Purpose is to remind Jews of the responsibility to ask forgiveness for their sins. </li></ul><ul><li>The Kippah </li></ul><ul><li>A small cap worn of the head signifying that human beings are beneath god </li></ul><ul><li>Some Jews wear the Kippah at different times or all day. </li></ul><ul><li>The Tallit </li></ul><ul><li>*A garment worn during morning prayers. Most important part are the fringes. </li></ul><ul><li>*Jewish boys get a Tallit at Age 13, during their bar mitzvah. </li></ul>

CELEBRATIONS AND HOLIDAYS <ul><li>BAR/BAT MITZVAH </li></ul><ul><li>Rosh Hashanah </li></ul><ul><li>Bar Mitzvah is for a boy and Bat Mitzvah is for a girl </li></ul><ul><li>Boys celebrate it at age 13 and girls celebrate at age 12 </li></ul><ul><li>When a Bar or Bat Mitzvah happens, they celebrate by having a huge party and they read part of the Torah . </li></ul><ul><li>Rosh Hashanah is the start of a New Year on the Hebrew Calendar </li></ul><ul><li>Represents the creation of the World or the Universe </li></ul><ul><li>Described as “the day of judgment” </li></ul>
  4. 4. Holy Places/Places of Worship <ul><li>Holy place for Jews is in Jerusalem called the West Wall </li></ul><ul><li>Most Jews pray at Synagogues or other Religious places. </li></ul><ul><li>A Synagogue is also a Jewish community center where kids can study about the Torah </li></ul>

RITUALS AND RITES OF PASSAGE <ul><li>Rite of Passage </li></ul><ul><li>*A special accomplishment in life you achieve. </li></ul><ul><li>*A Jewish example is when someone gets a Bar/Bat Mitzvah </li></ul><ul><li>Rituals </li></ul><ul><li>*When Jewish holidays take place, many rituals are held </li></ul><ul><li>*Examples: In Passover, having a feast called Seder and drinking four glasses of wine are two major rituals </li></ul>
  6. 6. HOLY WRITINGS <ul><li>The Most Holy Text in Judaism is the Torah. </li></ul><ul><li>It contains the 5 stories of Moses. </li></ul><ul><li>*The Jewish Bible is also a very holy book. </li></ul><ul><li>*It contains the 5 stories of Moses and the Old Testament . </li></ul>
