Planning and top tips
Tip #1
Production Values are
important

How can you do it better?
Tip #2

Think about the listener

What do they want? Who are they?
From Powerful Radio…

 Over-Prep

 Do things the listeners do

 Structure your breaks BEFORE the mic opens

 Remember your audience composition when
  building in features

 Speak concisely. Edit copy or write down
important items so you won’t get lost
Tip #3
Plan the programme fully –
And have a back-up
Tip #4
Plan each link and live
element

Live is a risk but you can reduce the risk
Be Prepared

 Be prepared and on time for your show. What
listeners respond to is the finished product. Our
product is what comes out of the speakers on
the radio. Our preparation is real but often
  invisible.

 Geller. 2012. P137

        Allows creativity, structure and humour
Tip #6

          Coming up…..
          Now we have…
          Earlier you will heard….

    Intimate? Friendly?
 Your accent and dialect. Pronounciation
Radio Four

What’s happening in the real world?

Creating Powerful Radio: P39
extracts from Tommy Kramers Coaching Handbook

 Pull the listener with you

 Use real language

 Connect with the listener

 The rule of one

 Promote ahead

 Have a road map
 PART ONE: 1100-1200

 An idea for a 45 second link

 Plan it and do it

 Something new and fresh

                      PART TWO… until 1300

In your groups create a show brief and then

                      it back next week
Trail Making
Trails

 What are you promoting?

 Are you showing? Telling? Teasing?

 What do you want the listener to do?

 What reason are you giving to listen?

 Do you use your voices? A station voice?
