Types of hotels

  1. A hotels is an establishment that provides paid lodging on a short – term basis. Provides basic accommodation , in times past, consisting only of a room with bed , a cupboard, a small table and a washstand. Largely been replaced by rooms with modern facilities including en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning or climate control.
  2. Size refers to the number of rooms. Various categories on the basic of size are : 1.SMALL HOTELS – A hotels with 25 rooms or less is called a small hotel. 2.AVERAGE HOTELS – A hotel with 26 to 99 rooms is called an average hotel. 3.ABOVE AVERAGE HOTEL – A hotel with 100 to 299 rooms is called above average hotel. 4.LARGE HOTEL – A hotel with more than 300 rooms is classified as large hotel.
  3. THE STAR CATEORY TO THE HOTELS ARE GIVEN BY THE COMMITTEE CALLED “HOTELS AND RESTAURANTS APPROVAL AND CLASSIFCATION COMMITTEE (HRACC)”. 1. ONE STAR 2. TWO STAR 3. THREE STAR 4. FOUR STAR 5. FIVE STAR DELUXE 6. FIVE STAR SUPER DELUXE
  4. 1.Located in the heart of the city . 2.Near the shopping areas and theaters etc. 3.With high rates . e.g :Taj hotel in Mumbai.
  5. 1.Airport hotels : They are located near the airport 2.Hotel owned courtesy vans often transport guests between the hotel and the airport 3.Typically target market include business clientele ,airlines passengers with overnight travel layovers or cancelled flight and airline personnel.
  6. RESORTS 1. A resort located in the tourist interest places like hills ,forest ,beaches , on an island , on in some other exotic located away from crowed residential areas. 2. The recreational facilities and breathtaking scency typical of most resort 3.Most resort hotels provide extensive food and beverage valet and room service , sight seeing to vacationers. 4. Many resort also also provides special act ivies ,indoor, and outdoor and outdoor games for guest such as dancing golf , tennis , horse riding hikes skiing and swimming ,heath club ,steam sauna bath ,spa etc.
  7. 1. Motels are normally economical and they provide comfortable bedrooms that’s motorists prefer to stay on their way for a night rest 2. Motels have facilities of proper motor garage to service a car and a filling station of refill
  8. The conference hotels which often contain full sized luxury facilities with full service accommodation and amenities. These hotels may be referred to as major conference center hotels, flagship hotels ,destination hotels . Its near to airport or fixed location.
  9. 1 . The casino may offer common forms of gambling including slot machines, poker, blackjack, and sports betting . 2 . The hotel, which is usually nearby or connected to the casino, provides lodging, food and beverages, swimming pools, valet parking, and other popular hotel services.in luxury hotel they provide casino in their hotels.
  10. 1. The all – suite concept a new addition to the hotels industry. 2. These suite provide living room , bedroom , kitchenette etc.
  11. 1 . These are very small and very expensive hotels and mainly cater for elite class . 2 . Though the hotels is small but still it has more number of restaurants. Each one is decorated keeping in view a theme and the food served

  15. Taking a vacation can be a complicated and expensive undertaking for any individual, couple or family. Many people choose to rent a room at a hotel or buy a vacation home as a summer residence. Timeshares offer an alternative to these traditional vacation options, but timeshare ownership isn't right for everyone.
  16. A condominium project that involves registration desks , short-term occupancy , food and telephone services , and daily cleaning services, and is generally operated as a commercial hotel even though the units are individually owned.
  17. A chain is usually classified as operating under a management contract or as a franchise or referral group. Chain usually make certain rules regarding standards, rules, policies , procedures or affiliation etc Some chains own affiliated properties , but , many do not. Some chain have strong control over the architecture, management and standards of affiliated properties. Other chain only concentrate on advertising, marketing purchasing.
  18. INDEPENDENT HOTELS DO NOT HAVE OWERSHIP OR MANAGEMENT AFFILIATION WITH OTHER PROPERTIES . THEY HAVE NO RELATION TO OTHER HOTELS REGARDING POLICIES ,PROCEDURES, FINANCIAL OBLIGATION, MANAGEMENT ,ACCOUNTING ETC. THESE MAY BE REGISTERED AS SOLE PROPRIETOR – SHIP OR A PRIVATE LIMITED COMPANY .
  19. A form of business organization in which a firm which already has a successful product or service (the franchisor) enters into a continuing contractual relationship with other businesses (franchisees) operating under the franchisor's trade name and usually with the franchisor's guidance, in exchange for a fee. Some of the most popular franchises in the United States include Subway, McDonalds, and 7-Eleven.
  20. Referral groups : consists of independence hotels which have grouped together for some common purpose. Though the properties in the referral group may be different from each other but there is satisfy guest expectations. The member hotels recommend guest to other member hotels. Best western international, one of the largest hotels chains is the best example of referral groups.
  21. 1 . Rest houses, government guest houses houses etc are the best example of transient hotels. 2 . In these hotels one is not allowed to stay for a very long time as these hotels are very economical and are patronized by the employees either on transfer or on tour on vacations.
  22. 1. The government of India to boost up tourism and to preserve the India heritage has started a scheme , where old heritage buildings palaces constructed before 1935 were converted into hotels. 2. Heritage grand hotels are those which are more than 100 year old.
  23. These hotels offer rooms / apartment on monthly basis and even if a guest stays for a part of the month , is normally charged for the full month. The best example for these hotels are hostels, paying guest houses for student , trainees, working people etc. Some big companies also hire them for months/year for their company executives for pleasure, traning etc. These can be located in any part of the country, it may be a hill station , beach etc. for pleasure or a big city or an industrial town for business.
