ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) has been established by an Act of J&K State
Legislature as a University of excellence. The University is recognized under section 2(f) and
12(B) of University Grants Commission Act 1956. Our projects are regularly supported by
various funding agencies including Government of India, University Grants Commission, All
India Council for Technical Education, Indian Council of Social Science Research etc. SMVDU
witnessed a remarkable growth and has transformed 470 acres of barren land in the lap of Trikuta
hills, the abode of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, into a magnificent Temple of Learning. Continuous
evaluation system forms the basis of our academic pattern, syllabi and examination. University
has signed several Memoranda of Understanding with various national and international
academic, professional and research institutes as well as industry to augment the learning process
and develop research and development infrastructure. The University has four Faculties
consisting of twelve schools which promote seven Undergraduate and ten Postgraduate
programmes besides Ph.D. programme. The University was inaugurated by Dr. A P J Abdul
Kalam, the President of India, in the year 2004 and the first convocation was addressed by the
then Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh, in 2008.
ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS
School of Economics at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra (J&K) is a newly established
School under Faculty of Management and has received the privilege of organizing the “National
Seminar on Economics of Make in India” in collaboration with The Indian Economic
Association, during 29-30th September 2015. The School of Economics offers 5-Years
Integrated M.Sc. (Economics) programme besides Ph.D. programme. Admission in the M.Sc.
programme is done on merit of 10+2 examination. The intake is 60. Although the minimum
qualification is 60% marks in 10+2 examination, highly meritorious students have joined this
unique prestigious programme with more than 90% score in 10+2 examination. The curriculum
includes courses and topics which equip students to carry out lucrative emerging jobs in the top
level MNCs, including Indian MNCs. At present such jobs are most remunerative and a large
number of B.Tech. students from IITs and PGDMs of IIMs go for such jobs. The major

companies and recruiters of such graduates will be: Bain, BCG, McKinsey, E&Y, Accenture,
KPMG, Microsoft, Genpact, PWC, Google, Adobe, GE, HSBC, AMEX, IBM, JP Morgan,
Morgan Stanley, S&P, Moody’s, CRISIL, CIBIL, TCS, Infosys, HCL, Wipro Technologies,
Barclays Bank etc. The world class human capital will be developed through practical academic
inputs in the areas of Business Analytics, Financial Analytics, Data Mining, Applied
Econometrics, Business Forecasting, Time Series Analysis etc.
The Department has planned to organize seminars, conferences, workshops, special lectures and
other academic programmes on issues of national and international relevance and importance on
regular basis.
ABOUT THE SEMINAR
Today we have achieved a milestone by completing 67 years of independence. It’s now the time
for every Indian to undergo self-introspection of the achievements we have already made and
also those that are to be still achieved. The National Seminar on “Economics of Make in India” is
an initiative in this direction.
It is well known that Make in India is an initiative program of the Government of India to
encourage companies to manufacture their products in India. It was launched by Prime
Minister Narendra Modi on 25 September 2014. The major objective behind the initiative is to
focus on 25 sectors of the economy for job creation and skill enhancement.
Some of these sectors are automobiles, chemicals, IT, pharmaceuticals, textiles, ports, aviations,
leather, tourism and hospitality, wellness, railways, auto components, design
manufacturing, energy, mining, bio-technology, and electronics. It is expected that this
developmental initiative will increase GDP growth and tax revenue of the country. The initiative
also aims at high quality standards and minimising the degradation of environment.
The importance of Make in India as a discipline has enormous in the globalized era. Awareness
in a greater lever is always beneficial for the successful implementation of this developmental
plan. There is a need to deliberate on the various issues related to Economics of Make in India in
order to harness the opportunities available as also face the challenges and be prepared with the
proactive approach to combat these issues of varying complexities.

Through this Seminar, various issues concerning Economics of Make in India shall be raised and
it would hopefully arrive at a prudent and logical conclusion which policy makers could use as
guiding principles at various levels of planning and decision making. The Seminar aims at
initiating an in-depth and comprehensive debate and deliberations of acceptable standards
regarding present status, challenges and issues confronting the present in India. The two-day
Seminar is expected to strive to bring academicians, researchers, business managers,
professionals, practitioners, scholars and policy makers together on one platform, for exchange
and sharing their experiences, ideas and research results, related to different aspects of Make in
India.
OBJECTIVES
1. To provide a unique forum to present and deliberate research based knowledge among
academicians, industry captains, researchers and practitioners on various issues related to the
different fields of Economics of Make in India
2. To understand the ground realities of the Make in India Programme, evaluate the rising
constraints, problems and prospects of Make in India
3. To explore the layout for future discourse in the emerging fields of Make in India
FOCUS
This Seminar will present a platform for expression and amalgamation of various constructive
and creative ideas on Make in India that are likely to leave a positive impression on any future
economic and business narrative by the students and experts or Policy makers in the field.
THEMES AND SUB-THEMES OF THE SEMINAR
With the broad theme to discuss the issues and challenges of Economics of Make in India
following theme and sub-themes are proposed. However, papers that may not fit into the above
sub-themes but are reflective of the broad theme of the seminar are also welcome.

REVIEW AND BEST PAPER AWARD
The manuscripts shall be subjected to a blind review process. The best three papers shall be
selected by a panel of experts constituted for the purpose. The decision of the panel shall be final
and binding. The award for the best three papers will be announced on the day of the Seminar.

Selected research papers will be published in the form of a book with ISBN Number. However,
the authors may opt to have their research papers back and get the same published elsewhere
with the permission of the authority.

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION OF PAPERS
The electronic version of the paper should be e-mailed to: iea.smvdu@gmail.com and
acceptance of the paper implies that at least one of the authors will attend the Seminar and
present the paper. Papers must include a clear indication of the purpose of the research,
methodology, major results, implications and key references. They should adhere to the
following:
Maximum Length 6000 words including title/cover page and References.
Margins One inch all sides
Font Times New Roman,12 points Justified
Line spacing 1.5
Title Page Title, author(s), affiliation(s),contact details, Email addresses
Extended Abstract of full paper Not more than 500 words and a maximum of five key words
Tables, illustrations, charts, figures, formulae etc. should be placed within the text at appropriate
places. Referencing should be in the APA style.
For example: Ang, J.B. (2008), “Determinants of Foreign Direct Investment in Malaysia”,
Journal of Policy Modeling, 30,185-189.
Paper without soft copy will not be entertained. The authors must send a declaration that the
paper is original and has not been sent/submitted elsewhere for publication or presentation in any
conference/seminar.

Interested participants should get themselves registered by sending the duly filled registration
form along with the registration fee payable in form of Demand Draft in favour of Registrar,

TEMPERATURE
During the month of September the temperature in the region fluctuates between 25 to 35 degree
Celsius.
HOW TO REACH SHRI MATA VAISHNO DEVI UNIVERSITY
Jammu is well connected by Rail and Air from New Delhi and rest of India. Regular bus service
is also available to the holy city of Katra from almost all district headquarters of Punjab,
Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Srinagar, etc. The Campus is about 13 kms away to
south from Katra, 40 kms north from Jammu railway station and 50 Kms from Jammu Air Port.
Now, the new four lane toll road highway has become largely operational and is about 7 kms
from the University campus.

  • 2. 2 ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) has been established by an Act of J&K State Legislature as a University of excellence. The University is recognized under section 2(f) and 12(B) of University Grants Commission Act 1956. Our projects are regularly supported by various funding agencies including Government of India, University Grants Commission, All India Council for Technical Education, Indian Council of Social Science Research etc. SMVDU witnessed a remarkable growth and has transformed 470 acres of barren land in the lap of Trikuta hills, the abode of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, into a magnificent Temple of Learning. Continuous evaluation system forms the basis of our academic pattern, syllabi and examination. University has signed several Memoranda of Understanding with various national and international academic, professional and research institutes as well as industry to augment the learning process and develop research and development infrastructure. The University has four Faculties consisting of twelve schools which promote seven Undergraduate and ten Postgraduate programmes besides Ph.D. programme. The University was inaugurated by Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, the President of India, in the year 2004 and the first convocation was addressed by the then Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh, in 2008. ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS School of Economics at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra (J&K) is a newly established School under Faculty of Management and has received the privilege of organizing the “National Seminar on Economics of Make in India” in collaboration with The Indian Economic Association, during 29-30th September 2015. The School of Economics offers 5-Years Integrated M.Sc. (Economics) programme besides Ph.D. programme. Admission in the M.Sc. programme is done on merit of 10+2 examination. The intake is 60. Although the minimum qualification is 60% marks in 10+2 examination, highly meritorious students have joined this unique prestigious programme with more than 90% score in 10+2 examination. The curriculum includes courses and topics which equip students to carry out lucrative emerging jobs in the top level MNCs, including Indian MNCs. At present such jobs are most remunerative and a large number of B.Tech. students from IITs and PGDMs of IIMs go for such jobs. The major
  • 3. 3 companies and recruiters of such graduates will be: Bain, BCG, McKinsey, E&Y, Accenture, KPMG, Microsoft, Genpact, PWC, Google, Adobe, GE, HSBC, AMEX, IBM, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, S&P, Moody’s, CRISIL, CIBIL, TCS, Infosys, HCL, Wipro Technologies, Barclays Bank etc. The world class human capital will be developed through practical academic inputs in the areas of Business Analytics, Financial Analytics, Data Mining, Applied Econometrics, Business Forecasting, Time Series Analysis etc. The Department has planned to organize seminars, conferences, workshops, special lectures and other academic programmes on issues of national and international relevance and importance on regular basis. ABOUT THE SEMINAR Today we have achieved a milestone by completing 67 years of independence. It’s now the time for every Indian to undergo self-introspection of the achievements we have already made and also those that are to be still achieved. The National Seminar on “Economics of Make in India” is an initiative in this direction. It is well known that Make in India is an initiative program of the Government of India to encourage companies to manufacture their products in India. It was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25 September 2014. The major objective behind the initiative is to focus on 25 sectors of the economy for job creation and skill enhancement. Some of these sectors are automobiles, chemicals, IT, pharmaceuticals, textiles, ports, aviations, leather, tourism and hospitality, wellness, railways, auto components, design manufacturing, energy, mining, bio-technology, and electronics. It is expected that this developmental initiative will increase GDP growth and tax revenue of the country. The initiative also aims at high quality standards and minimising the degradation of environment. The importance of Make in India as a discipline has enormous in the globalized era. Awareness in a greater lever is always beneficial for the successful implementation of this developmental plan. There is a need to deliberate on the various issues related to Economics of Make in India in order to harness the opportunities available as also face the challenges and be prepared with the proactive approach to combat these issues of varying complexities.
  • 4. 4 Through this Seminar, various issues concerning Economics of Make in India shall be raised and it would hopefully arrive at a prudent and logical conclusion which policy makers could use as guiding principles at various levels of planning and decision making. The Seminar aims at initiating an in-depth and comprehensive debate and deliberations of acceptable standards regarding present status, challenges and issues confronting the present in India. The two-day Seminar is expected to strive to bring academicians, researchers, business managers, professionals, practitioners, scholars and policy makers together on one platform, for exchange and sharing their experiences, ideas and research results, related to different aspects of Make in India. OBJECTIVES 1. To provide a unique forum to present and deliberate research based knowledge among academicians, industry captains, researchers and practitioners on various issues related to the different fields of Economics of Make in India 2. To understand the ground realities of the Make in India Programme, evaluate the rising constraints, problems and prospects of Make in India 3. To explore the layout for future discourse in the emerging fields of Make in India FOCUS This Seminar will present a platform for expression and amalgamation of various constructive and creative ideas on Make in India that are likely to leave a positive impression on any future economic and business narrative by the students and experts or Policy makers in the field. THEMES AND SUB-THEMES OF THE SEMINAR With the broad theme to discuss the issues and challenges of Economics of Make in India following theme and sub-themes are proposed. However, papers that may not fit into the above sub-themes but are reflective of the broad theme of the seminar are also welcome. Economic Issues and Challenges of Make in India 1. Education and Make in India 10. Health and Make in India 11. Job Creation and Make in India REVIEW AND BEST PAPER AWARD The manuscripts shall be subjected to a blind review process. The best three papers shall be selected by a panel of experts constituted for the purpose. The decision of the panel shall be final and binding. The award for the best three papers will be announced on the day of the Seminar.   • 6. 6 GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION OF PAPERS The electronic version of the paper should be e-mailed to: iea.smvdu@gmail.com and acceptance of the paper implies that at least one of the authors will attend the Seminar and present the paper. Papers must include a clear indication of the purpose of the research, methodology, major results, implications and key references. They should adhere to the following: Maximum Length 6000 words including title/cover page and References. Margins One inch all sides Font Times New Roman,12 points Justified Line spacing 1.5 Title Page Title, author(s), affiliation(s),contact details, Email addresses Extended Abstract of full paper Not more than 500 words and a maximum of five key words Tables, illustrations, charts, figures, formulae etc. should be placed within the text at appropriate places. Referencing should be in the APA style. For example: Ang, J.B. (2008), “Determinants of Foreign Direct Investment in Malaysia”, Journal of Policy Modeling, 30,185-189. Paper without soft copy will not be entertained. The authors must send a declaration that the paper is original and has not been sent/submitted elsewhere for publication or presentation in any conference/seminar. HOW TO REACH SHRI MATA VAISHNO DEVI UNIVERSITY Jammu is well connected by Rail and Air from New Delhi and rest of India. Regular bus service is also available to the holy city of Katra from almost all district headquarters of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Srinagar, etc. The Campus is about 13 kms away to south from Katra, 40 kms north from Jammu railway station and 50 Kms from Jammu Air Port. Now, the new four lane toll road highway has become largely operational and is about 7 kms from the University campus.
