3. Youtube We used youtube mainly for finding trailers from similar genres. From doing this we gained ideas for our own trailer and It inspired us in the style of shots we wanted to use in our trailer. We also used youtube for distribution, we uploaded our trailer for everyone too see as this is something that all films in this age are doing. http://shankthefilm.com/ We used this website to gain more information on the type of film it was, and also to get an idea of the background of the stars involved. From this we found that a lot of them had social realism backgrounds either in life, tv or film.
4. advertising We used a number of different ways to advertise, one of the main ones was the use of social networking, by creating a face book page it meant that we could target our audience easily and freely, also from the other aspect with the Reigate a2 media studies face book page it meant that we could think of ideas and do work from home. We chose to make our magazine in the little white lies over the empire and total film because it fitted in better with the genre, budget and style of our film. Generally the social realism genre in British film is independent and this is shown as little white lies covers majorly low budget film.
5. soundtrack We used soundtrack which is a sound system set up for the Macs and this was for the background music and sound effects behind our trailer. We were looking for a bass sound so we could recreate a drum and bass song because this almost symbolizes our genre and also goes well with the short shots giving off the feel of action throughout the trailer. The advantages of this are that it is easy to use with final cut, and there are loads of different sections we could use to create the soundtrack, disadvantages are that if we didn’t find anything we liked then we wouldn’t have any other way to have a soundtrack.
6. Final cut express Final cut express was used for the construction of the trailer, in this we could edit it in time with our soundtrack. Final cut express was easy to use as uploading the shots and cutting them down was very simple. There were also a large variety of transitions which made it more exciting and less “samey”. Also the way that it was set out meant that it was very easy once the soundtrack was made to apply it over the top in the way we wanted it.
7. Camera used to film When we began filming our trailer we used the flip ultra HD video camera. This was a good quality camera and not as expensive as the SLR cameras which meant that we could film with them off the college premises, we used a tripod and it was easy to screw in due to the screw being attached at the bottom, also the fact it is a digital camera meant that to upload it onto the Macs we only had to plug it in and it was uploaded, so we don’t need to capture what bits we need before editing them. Finally when using the flip cam all you need to do is turn it on and go because there is no set up required.
8. Photoshop We used photoshop for the effects used in creating both the poster and the magazine cover, it had lots of effects and was simple to use. It is user friendly and very easy to save and come back to when changes need to be made. Using Photoshop gave it a more professional look and meant that unlike hand drawing when a mistake is made it was very easy to undo. We changed the contrast to high so that it would have the black and white effect and used the pop art feature on photoshop.
9. Abdobe Illustrator Illustrator was used for the arrangement of all of the pictures that were edited on Photoshop, it was also used for the title and the variation of fonts and the fact you can download fonts from the internet was very handy indeed. It was our first time using this program and we found it easy, the inserting of images was easy as all we needed to do was file- place and find the image, this meant we could have anything we wanted on our poster and magazine.
